The Israeli Defence Force has been hit by a sharp rise in the number of desertions among its troops, according to an army report.
Military police are dealing with at least 40% more deserters than last year, the result of increasing numbers of reservists refusing to perform military service. One report put the increase as high as 67%.
Since the beginning of the intifada in 2000, the army has been forced to call up tens of thousands of reservists every month to conduct operations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
A spokesman for the IDF said yesterday that the rate of desertions had increased massively since the beginning of the intifada. The rate of desertion in 1999 increased by 7%, by 31% in 2000 and by 40% in 2002. He added that the latest figures were still being analysed and refused to give the numbers involved. 11 get killed in Jerusalem
A Palestinian bomber blew up on a crowded bus in Jerusalem this morning, killing 11 passengers and wounding dozens. Many schoolchildren were on the bus, officials said. The bomber set off the explosives at about 7.10am local time (0510 GMT) as the bus halted at a stop in Jerusalem’s residential Kiryat Menachem neighbourhood.
The blast blew out the windows of the green city bus. A torso that had fallen over the side of the bus was covered with a white and blue chequered blanket. Debris covered the street and body parts lay on the sidewalk.URL=

It is a shame that the palestinian terrorists and their supporters don’t see the failings of their strategy. With each bus bombing, the dream of a palestinian state gets more and more unrealistic.

I never said the Palestinians were failing at killing Israelis, I am implying that their strategy is not working at gaining them statehood. Yes, it's true the IDF invaded Israel. But that was after the invasion of terrorists into Israel. Is that true?

I don't see the excuse worth it, if you make borders between the two states (visible) I don't think suicide bombing would be the no 1. cause of death in Israel any more.

Every time Israel initiates a pull out or a peace envoy is en route to the area, more suicide bombings disrupt the process. Is your only suggestion for Israel to complete a full withdrawal? Are any concessions or guarantees necessary from the Palestinians? It wasn't Israel who declared war or called for the destruction of Arabs. It is Hamas and those that support them that keep war going by calling for the destruction of Israel. It is Arafat who keeps the war going by walking away from a "bad" deal rather than working a new one out, it is those everywhere who support suicide bombers (such as Saddam) that keep the war going.
