I’ve met some pretty big jerks in the past few years. Its like an endless line of them. Not all guys, some ladies too. But mostly guys.
They are selfish. They are rude. They are elitist. They are manipulating and conniving. Every evil you can think of - they have it - behind their pearl white grin and fake facade.
Yet. Yet yet yet. They have lots of money. They have lots of respect. People adore them. They get all the women (in the case of the ladies…they get all the women…). They have every comfort you can think of. And they have every opportunity you can think of.
To be successful in a competitive environment, you have to be an utter jerk. And I mean really successful.
They’re jerks, but they get all the good things in life. Why?
I was just thinking of something very similar to what you're describing but didn't quite know how to post it. I was thinking about Paris Hilton of all people. What a waste of a life!! That's my opinion but the scary truth is that to many people she is the epitome of glamour and 'the best in life'. As Muslims we're told that if you are good you will be rewarded and bad you're punished. Pretty simple way of thinking and it sounds logical. So then why do so many scummy people have all the 'rewards' of life? In my opinion life is a test. Even material wealth is a test. Do we forget Allah when we are so attached to the world and its riches? Do we only remember Allah when times are bad?
Often times it seems that it's a dog eat dog world. And to get ahead you have to be a shrewd jerk who doesn't care about anyone else. You have to have an ego and be driven by a lust for power, money, women etc.
material wealth is a real test, you're right saima. I fear having too much money or wealth, actually I wouldn't want it lest it brings out the devil in me. On the other hand I have seen some really stinking rich Muslims who are so grounded, and I think people like that deserve wealth - not everyone handles it well. I know this was off-topic, sorry.

Behind this façade these people are very sad and lonely people. Their rudeness and elitism is there only for self deceiving that they can get away with it. It is the sycophants make them act that way.
They will have to account on the day lots of money that they have; how they acquired and disposed of it.
Believe you me; this is going to be a mighty accounting.
It is only the sycophants or those who envy their lifestyle adore them and give them respect. And this only lasts as long the ‘jerk’ has the money. When the money dries up these very people who once adored them will be their worst tormentors.
The women around such men are only their for the money and their personal comfort – these men are not loved for what they are but for what they have.

I have met a lot of ‘loaded’ people who are the most decent, humble and down to earth in their attitude to others. I am sure that these good souls will be as successful in the Hereafter as they in this world.
As I have said earlier the jerks you are referring lead very lonely lives, as they never have true friends and have no sense what friendship means. They are always trying to out do themselves just to impress their fickle friends and women. Most of what they is put on just for their own insecure egos.
These people are not to be envied but to be pitied.
Any Man content with whatever the life has dished him is genuinely happier than these ‘loaded jerks’.

*“And strain not your eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to various groups of them [polytheists], the splendour of the life in this world, that We may test them thereby.” * [Qur’an 20:131]
“And put forward to them the example of the life of this world: It is like the water [rain] which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it, and becomes fresh and green. But [later] it becomes dry and broken pieces, which the winds scatter. And Allah is Able to do everything.” * [Qur’an 18:45]

Well other way round… If i would have thought of it … I would be giving the same kind of comment or question … Well the people you see here having all the money and all the facilities… well for how many years … at most 49-60 yrs (thats the avg age)… Well i wont prefer 49-60 yrs of bed of roses. Rather than having an immortal life. If you know what i mean.
