jehez shopping experiences?

We’re always talking about bridal outfits, but what did you all do when shopping for your jehez? I imagine getting jehez outfits from the big names like Umar Sayeed and HSY would get mighty expensive…where did you go? (especially in Karachi) Any recommendations on where to go for what?

I’ll start, I’ve heard Rehana Saigol is really well known for her saris so I think I’ll pay her a visit when buying saris for my jehez

Pick-up any material u really like, jamawar/chiffon/lace and get work done on them.. I pick-up material I fall instantly in love with and have the "kaam-wala's" make them.. u need to go and see some of the "kaam" they're REALLY good.. u don't need a designer for u're jahez outfits..

thanks Gina! Thats a great idea…I have no idea about kaam walas! :konfused: Any recommendations for fabric places? I know of Hilal Silk, Rehana Saigol and Banaras Silk Palace.

^theres this very small shop in gulf right across the lace shops, he sells amazing jamavar, unfortunately i dont remember his shop no. but someone also mentioned great jamavar from bunto.

if u want chiffon and silks go to ashiana (bazaar right next to the forum) and some shops in the forum.

i like the kaamwalas in kehkashan which is right across gulf.

Re: jehez shopping experiences?

Most ppl I know just buy outfits that have kaam already stitched on them and just stitch it to their size...

Re: jehez shopping experiences?

I'm thinking Bunto doesn't sell jamavaar...or does she???

Re: jehez shopping experiences?

How long do these people at kehkashan take to do the kaam if you provide them with the fabric?

Re: jehez shopping experiences?

^Usually depends on the time of the yr u go, if ur going during wedding season, they can take upto 2-3 weeks. During my wedding, my sister got a few dresses made from people there and we got them within 2 weeks. She came to khi a month before the wedding so she didnt have that much time anyway. and the work was very good.

Re: jehez shopping experiences?

^that's awesome. do they stitch them as well?

Re: jehez shopping experiences?

^Some of them do (not all) but they would probably take another1-2 weeks for that. Some stores actually do everything, u pick the designs and styles u want, u pick the color and fabric u want it on, give them ur size and they will give u the finished product. other stores ask u to give them the fabric. there are fabric walas in kehkashan also with small stalls, they usually have very good chiffons.

Re: jehez shopping experiences?

Shay, send me the information you were talking about

In Khi Gulf and Ashiana has fabulous "kaam-wala's", they have gorgeous stones, metallic work, antique dabka, kora all u need is pretty fabric! They usually take anywhere from 2-3 weeks..

Re: jehez shopping experiences?

I did my jehez shopping in 2 weeks and i got way more than i had planned or expected to buy. suits wise i think u really need to find a boutique whose disigns and fabrics u really like (that was my biggest challenge finding a decent boutique as i am extremely picky). I bought like 15 really heavy boutique suits from the same boutique as i bought my wedding dress the prices of each suit came out to be extremely reasonable since i was buying so many of them and the rest as i was shopping for normal things i would see fabric or colors of unstitched fabrics and would end up buying it and giving it to the tailor or i would buy the fabric find a kaam wala who would just do kaam on the unstitched fabric and then i would give it to the tailor to stitch, funny thing i had so much unstitched fabric we had to hire 4 different tailors to get everything done within 2 weeks all i rememebr is it being chaos bc we had to so much fabric but so lil time!! now that i look back at it was an awesome experience even though it was just plain ol crazy drama for 2 straight weeks.

Overall, based on my experience i had a different view of doing things in my mind before i got to Pakistan but once i got there everything i had thought of went out the window bc the way things are sold there is completley different and i had no clue due to the fact that i had gone after 10 1/2 yrs my only prob was finding a mehndi day suit im not too fond of gota so i went crazy looking for a mehndi day suit and found it from a boutique 2 days befor my flight and got it sewn overnight!!
