a lot of real information…you may call the article unbalanced as there is no hope shown for pakistan…but in the end every country is gauged on economic metrics such as import/export deficit, budget deficit, tax revenues, foreign reserves, inflation rate, economic growth rate and Pakistani is doing worst on all these fronts..and all of this fiscal squeeze and economic disintegration is further enhanced by terrorism and sectarian wars…
bottom line..paks tax revenue collection is so shameful..just 7% of GDP…unbelievable…and that is why I always say…who is responsible for paksiatn’s destruction…masses, masses and masses and its middle class…

Same phenomenon exists all over the world. It is exacerbated in Pakistan by the fact that the govt does nothing to bring these people into the tax bracket. We can blame the public till the cows come home, but the legislation and law enforcement, both, are in the hands of the government. And until and unless the govt enforces these laws, nothing can change.

i dont disagree with you and that is why i have no hopes from sharifs....coz PMLN can never enforce tax policy on pak' middle class business community ..from Faisalabad to Gujranwala to sialkot to lahore..the middle class busisness community makes billions cumulatively and pay no taxes and they are the backbone of PMLN..

Yes, but then again, they are just doing what their partners in crime, PPP have done all these years. Most of PPP members are waderas, landowners, feudals, and own a vast number of sugar mills, agricultural land, and other industries in Sindh. And we all know what PPP has done with regards to that. Agriculture tax has been erased....not that the feudals pay anyway.
Only solution is to have an independent FBR. But that again is a tricky issue. Who will bell the cat?
