Jealousy or what?

Re: Jealousy or what?

Rejection is never pleasant…not for the person who is on the receiving end and also not for the person who is doing the rejecting. It’s not easy to reject someone…and people try to word things in a way that would soften the blow. IMO…he was trying to soften the blow by saying that you’re unique and that he won’t find a girl like you. This positive comment does not mean that he has a romantic interest in you. And it’s really easy to over-analyze comments/actions when you have a crush on someone and make a bigger deal of them than they actually are. Kind of like misconstruing a greeting or a smile as interest, etc. If he REALLY TRULY thought he’d never find another girl like you and that you were the “one” for him…he’d be with you. But that’s not the case…and therefore the contradiction implies that he was trying to be as gentle as possible with the rejection and he’s not interested.

As far as you feeling jealous of him interacting with other girls…yeah that’s normal. You had/have a crush on him. You invested time and emotional energy in him and it bothers you that are not at the receiving end of his flattering attention. As far as what you should do…I think you need to keep yourself busy in positive activities. You sound young…like you’re either in high school or college…therefore concentrate on your studies…on hobbies/interests/personal goals you have…spending time with family and friends. Try not to dwell on him. You say that he’s a close friend of yours…but not all your time has to be spent with him or thinking about him. Spend it with other people, for example. I know this is not what you want to hear…but at least you can use your time/energy for better things. The worst thing you can do is to analyze each and every one of his past positive comments/actions and try to find some sort of “hope” that he returns your feelings. It’s tough and it may seem impossible right now…but time does decrease the intensity of the hurt. You will move on.
