Javed replacement??

Fact is Pakistan Batting SUCKS!!!...there is no doubt that we still haven’t got Javed replacement….the way he use to play w/ his heart and passion for country made him Legend…even Imran Khan said – he never questioned Javed commitment for his team and country…. He was the most consistent batsman…

Presently we all consider Inzi as our number one batsman—(technically correct) …followed by Yohanna….No doubt they are good batsman….but they have one big difference –compared to Javed…Javed was a match winner…he was a fighter…a true competitor!!

Since Javed left we never got any batsman close to him…yes there was BASIT ALI!!
Anyone remember him???
Basit Ali was very similar in style and tech to Javed…he was a great prospect but he lost his way and got wasted….Basit could have filled Javed shoes…

Whatever happened to him.is another story…Many years back- I saw him several time driving his new golden Civic Vti….. coming out of a huge house @ Khyban e Mujahid—Defense Phase 5 in Karachi…None of my business though..but I wonder how he manage to built such a huge house w/ such a short cricket carrier (cricketer do get paid very well!!.wow)

I always felt that Yohanna could fill the spot.. but his performances as of late have not been very good. :( I dont know but Inzi just doesn't feel dependable. If its his big day he can win the match on his own, and if it aint his day.... well, he'll figure out the quickest way to loose his wicket and be out of there.

How old is yohanna btw? I mean if he has time he can still develop into a very consistent batsman.

As far as i think, ** Yousuf Youhana ** is a right replacement of Javed bhai because he was his ideal player and his shots reminds us of Javed Bhai… Yousuf is a responsible player as we can see from his innings and vice-captaincy:k:..

yeah i remember Basit very well. but i dont realy think he any way near javed in structure. when he started his career like many people i thought he was a javed in making as he seemed to be improvising the way people associate with javed. but later in that season i'm talking about early 94, after the NZ tour. too me he seemed like as if he trying to many things while batting, he would try to improvise, by moving towards the off stump, shuffling around the crease, to get cheeky runs, when he would not get those singles, he try to go for big hits, even the 20's, and 30's that he scored had a six in it. People actually noted that and they got basit out by just blocking his singles,he would lose his temprament in very early parts of his innings, and would get out trying to hit boundries.

I think Basit did not get enough chances to prove his worth. He was an immensly talented batsman and anyone who saw his innings in Sharjah against the West Indies would agree to that, ofcourse his innings was overshadowed by the blazing show put on by Lara in the second innings. Basit only played 43 innings in his ODI career and has a decent average of 34.18 with 1 centurt and 9 fifty's. I am sure his record would have improved a lot had we stuck with him and more exposure and experience would have given wonders. He surley was not in the same class as Javed Miandad but had someone like Javed been a mentor for him, he surley would have developed into a great batsman.

So many players have been labeled as Javed Miandad, first Basit Ali, then Youhana, who is next?

Basit was labeled as his replica because of his style, he tried to copy Javed's style, on the other hand Youhana was never labeled Javed as far as I remember. Youhana's consistency was at one point very similar to Javed's. Though he is going through a rough patch right now. Youhana is technically a very correct batsmen. Javed was very orthodox. He invented shots. It is very difficult to copyJaved's style and be succesull. He was very talented and he could afford to try all those things that he did, like reverse sweep, leaving the off stump open.. others will not get away with that.

That was a gem inning. The way he was handling WI bowlers, man it was awesome.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Javed replacement??

yep. I remember Lara praising Basit as one of the best young ones on the circuit right now and i have never seen Ambrose and walsh spanked so badly by anyone and i m sure i never will. :k:

Basit was one of my favorite, too bad his career succumbed to controversies and incidents.

Don't you mean unorthodox?

Anyway, I agree - Youhana and Miandad do not match at all. If someone did compare the two, it would probably have been a reference to both of them being the cornerstones of the Pak batting lineup at stages in their careers.

Youhana is a player of lazy elegance, a correct strokeplayer and a bad runner between the wickets. Miandad was a street-smart improviser who was a brilliant and intelligent runner.

Yo Jerablade, where have ya been? Long time no see!

Interesting topic you came up with. Miandad's replacement, IMO, can't be done but we can get something close to it and i.e. no doubt, Inzamam-ul-Haq. Along with Inzi, Yousuf Youhana is a reliable batsman. Both of these can fullfilled the spot of Javed Miandad. But Yoyo is far behind than Inzi, who has been around in the Cricket World for more than a decade. WC 03 was Inzi's bad patch ever; and I've never witnessed Inzi to be so pathetic and lacking in form. Whenever Inzi had a bad match or two, he always seems to back in form in with a blast. Much of blame, IMO, should be on Pakistani spectators and the people in PCB, who always mock Inzi of being an overweight guy who can't run. Main reason why Inzi was out of his form; was 'cause of losing weight. Even though, he holds a World Record of getting Run out 35+ times but then in the end, he's been a match winner both in Tests and ODIs for Pakistan.

How credible Inzamam is? Have a look at the current leading Batsmen in a Test Cricket. He ain't that far behind going by pts.

Yoyo lacks consistency nowadays; and needs to take a break. Nothing has been working out for him. Probably a good idea if he gives up as a Vice-Captain; and concentrate more on batting. Yoyo was out of form before being appointmented as a Vice-Captain. From now & then, he has been poor with bat.

You be the judge. :)
