Jashne-Azadi mela in Dallas, Tx

I was going to post last night but got home at 3:30 and it was too late.

Unlike the Indian celebration, we had two in Dallas. One was by the radio station and one by the Pakistani Association. It’s more or a matter of prestige then patriotism but this is what we have to live with. We went to one in downtown Dallas since they allow for food stalls. The one near my home doesn’t allow for any food stalls since they have wised up to the fact that the food vendors will not report their true earnings based on which the community center earns a percentage of.

So, we got to the hall by 9:30 and the stage was coming alive then. Before then, people were just coming and going since about 6-7pm. We stayed till the close and left at 2:30 or 2:15. Kids had a blast. We didn’t see them other then when they needed a buck for some candy or ice cream. This happens everytime.

So, here are some pics of the mela. I could have taken some more good shots but…

This is what we saw when we entered:

Nur Ali has been a regular presence in the Dallas area major desi functions. He is from Karachi and the only desi race car driver in America. He is sponsored by a Hispanic group. I know he has a website but I have to search for it.

By 10:30pm, there was a line 45 mins. long, at least, for the BBQ Tonight stall. Others had about 10 people each. We ended up eating chicken and beaf fajitas!!! Yuck! .... 'cause tonight I didn't quite want to eat mexican.

Around 9:30 as we were entering, some big names were beginning to come on the stage. I don't know about this guy. I had taken a pic or two but learned later in the show that he came from Pakistan. At first I had thought he was a local warm-up act.

Singer's name is Yasir Ali.

[thumb=D]P8150058%20-%20Yasir%20Ali.JPG[/thumb]

I recognized this name when they announced it..... Shehzad Roy:

[thumb=D]P8160078%20-%20-%20Shehzad%20Roy5.JPG[/thumb]

Then they announced the next singer and I knew of him too..... Junaid Jamshed.

He came on and borrowed a green chaadar from someone in the audience.

As the concert comes to a close, all three singers come on to the stage together. This is when I learned that Yasir is from Pakistan and came with the tour.

As you enjoyed the pics, ma badaulat were standing RIGHT below the nuclear speakers. These cabinets are about 5 feet high and are sitting atop bass speakers, about 5 feet in lenght and are laying down. My shirt felt like it was about to fly off me every second that bass went off which was few times every second. I believe I had lost the hearing in my left ear.... ! :)

Now, as I was leaving the hall after gathing the kids who had run infront of me, I came across a table that had this poster. I don't know what they wrote as the website address but they showed Rihtik with two thumbs.... I didn't get it but found it interesting to take a pic:

Kino, the mela was in Dallas Friday night. Also they were touting the fact that his is Junaid's last concert of his lifetime. But I heard from my sister-in-law yesterday that he's scheduled to have a concert in London shortly?

No, I couldn't get more pics. from up close. It took me some time to squeeze in closer to get Junaid.

Yasir... Akhtar? O.K..... Never heard of him.... looks like a newcomer.
