A Japanese court has sentenced a US marine to three-and-a-half years in prison for raping a woman on the southern island of Okinawa.
The case had provoked fresh resentment against the heavy American military presence there.
A run of crimes committed by US soldiers, including the rape in 1995 of a local schoolgirl by three US servicemen, has led to some calls for the removal or scaling down of the American presence, though other residents welcome the US military’s importance to the local economy.
About 26,000 of the 48,000 US military personnel in Japan are stationed on the string of islands, even though they make up less than 1% of the Japanese landmass.
Corporal Torres was found guilty of raping and beating a 19-year-old woman in an attack on 25 May.
**Prosecutors had demanded a five-year prison sentence, saying that Torres had punched the woman in the face and broken her nose before raping her on a road near the town of Kin. \b]
The judge called the circumstances of the crime “vicious”, the French agency AFP reported.

Now back onto the topic in hand. As for judging all US servicemen on this single case i am not. I am judging on a consistant stream of abuse such as rape and murder by US servicemen where ever they are based. This is an all too common pattern that happens with amercan forces.
Just a quick search reveals the disgusting pattern that emerges when US forces occupy or touchdown in foriegn lands
and they have the nerve to call others terrorists :nono:
Any country that actually cares for its citizens should think what they letting themselves in for when they start letting GI Joe take foothold in their land!
No one said they were angels. There are going to be some bad apples in the bunch. You brought up a few cases and accusations based on hundreds of thousands of soldiers deployed world wide. Still the comparison is valid - 19 so called "Muslims" hijacked airplanes and killed thousands of civilians. Should citizens think what they are letting themselves in for when they start letting Muslims take foothold in their land?
I have seen how devestating rape can be. All of these incidents are horrifc but there is no way we can say that all Marines are like this. I am sad to say that you can find incidents just as horrific and plentyful in our native Pakistan.
Instead of making excuse for these beasts you should be condemning them.

Bringing up the 19 hijackers is only to expose the flaw in your argument. GIs are no more known for their raping of women than Muslims are known for terrorism. Do you really believe that American GIs are more prone to perversion and rape than any other group of people?
There are 1.4 million men and women on active duty in the US Armed forces. How many bad apples did you find?
I'm happy to convict any one guilty of rape, not just those who happen to be US marines. I'm not quite sure why you are focussing on Americans. Is a Christian rapist worse than a Muslim rapist?

It does'nt say Japan jails Christian or Japan jails a Buddist it says Japan jails US Marine ok.

I guess the beating and rape of the poor woman was not enough. They raped her a second time by only convicting for 3.5 years. What is wrong with Japan? Don't they have any concern for the safety of their women in particular?
It is high time the Japanese developed their own defensive army and asked the Yanks to leave.
