Jannah and Jahannum - Rural and City

Someone recently made a link to me in such a profound way between our final abode to that of life in this world.

We often get a chance to live our lives in the best most luxurious ways and choose to live in high rise cities - concrete jungles. Manufacturings of our hands. There are also those who live humbly in natural environments small houses in large fields and rolling mountain ranges.

The Qur’an has told us that heaven is a collection of “gardens” - not buildings. Rather the same book speaks of Jahannum having fuel which is men and stones and that people will be in stretched pillars … (like pistons) … Do we question our desire for modernity and technology and unnatural things may be itself a symbol of all things that bring us harm and nature is a symbol of what brings us serenity.

If that link exists - do we not see people actively choosing to forsake nature with concrete? A lot of desis in the UK cement up their drives for their cars. They choose not to have flowers and a lawn because of the upkeep required. Surely something is wrong with this mentality … ??!

What a great logical point. Thankyou for reminding us. This post remined me a hadith "Allah's Apostle took hold shoulder of Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler." The sub-narrator added: Ibn 'Umar used to say, "If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death." Narrated by Mujahid in Sahih Bukhar's book 'To make the heart tender (Ar-riqaq - 423)
