Jamil/Jamila

I just heard from someone kai these two names shouldn’t be kept? Anything I’m missing?

It simple means one who is beautiful.

what's wrong with that?

Must be some Najamil/Najamila who is jealous :-p

No, seriously. They said Jamil and Jamila and even told me why. I just can’t remember

I follow the hadith that simply says to have beautiful meaningful names. The names you are objecting beautifully conform the very hadith hence I find nothing wrong in them.

I have cousins with the last name of Jamil....nothing wrong with that?

never heard of any such thing....

if jamil and jamila r not allowed than waseem shud also not be allowed....
and also tayyab....
and similar names....

'Umar (ra) had a daughter called 'Asiya. Allah's Messenger (saw) changed her name to Jamila. (Sahih Muslim 5333)

i dont know about jamila, but any name that implies piety should not be kept because rasul :saw: changed the name of zainab :razi: barrah to zainab
Volume 8, Book 73, Number 212:
Narrated Abu Huraira:

Zainab’s original name was “Barrah,” but it was said’ “By that she is giving herself the prestige of piety.” So the Prophet changed her name to Zainab.
