Jama Silk in Toronto

Does anybody (preferably Toronto guppies) know where I can buy jama silk in the Toronto area? I got this amazingly, beautiful suit made in Karachi. Surprise, surprise, the darzi totally destroyed the bottoms and so now I need to find a matching shalwar for it. I doubt the Indian stores will have it … and I doubt I’ll be able to find something matching here in Toronto. I want to have a look though. So far, none of the stores carry this kind of silk. :frowning: Any ideas??

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

Why not ask someone in karachi to send it to you.

PS: I hate this preferential treatment TO guppies get.

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

Cause that would require me to send the kapra back to Karachi. It's too much of a hassle but I will do that if there is no other alternative.

PS: :p

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

Mehnaz, there are a couple of Pakistani boutiques in Mississauga (ie. oriental costumes). I'm not exactly sure if they'd have it, but you might wanna call and ask.

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

what is jama silk???

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

do u mean jamawaar silk? i looked for that fabric when i was still in TO.. couldnt find it anywhere... there was this other fabric taht came pretty close.. a bit like dupionni silk minus the bumps ... finer... see if u can use taht fabric. i would try the fashion district at spadina and queen..sometimes fabricland can amaze.. so try that too

p.s) did u meet that woman in karachi???

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

^^ all the khatwateen askin if she met that woman? :stuck_out_tongue: :mocking:

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

Go to Gerrard and I'm sure you'll be able find something close to what you want there. I think my mom usually goes to Fabric Land (in Scarborough), which I believe has now closed down. Other than that, there are plenty of stores in Albion area. Check those out as well.

I don't think you'd be able to get the best matching in Karachi unless you either send a sample to a relative or friend in Karachi or know someone who knows exactly what you bought, which is preferably still available in store. Otherwise, I'm sure your matching coming from Pakistan would be horrible.

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

albion or gerrard i guess.

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

I can’t find it anywhere here. I’ve been to Gerrard and the Pakistani shops in Mississauga. This was my most favourite outfit and the damn tailor ruined it. It’s a very unique pattern so I know I won’t be able to find the exact match. I can’t even find anything similar to it though. :frowning:

Khawateen, my trip to Pakistan was quite an adventure. Out of 7 days, we lost 2.5 days in travelling and ‘Kashmir Day’. I didn’t get to even phone that woman you recommended. :bummer:

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

tsk tsk… i hear ya tho… the woman wasnt in karachi when i went.. on a trip to amreeka visiting family.. so i thought maybe the darzi could sew my most fav outfit… the material was real expensive (bought it from Bareeze)… trusted him with it.. and he managed to spoil it in ways unimaginable  … the sad thing was that out of 30 outfits he had to sew for me.. 29 turned out amazing.. but it was this outfit.. my most fav and precious one he managed to destroy… tis a sad world we live in :sob sob sob:

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

albion and islington and gerrard...also there is a new shop that opened up on burnhamthorpe and wolfdale in mississauga..its pretty big..da guy is from karachi pakistan, so do chk it out!

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

take a pic of the suit/colours etc. and send it back thru mail.
Ask a relative to print it and buy some new jama's and to send it?

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

What is the name of the shop? Im going to toronto in May, i would like to do some pakistani shopping

Re: Jama Silk in Toronto

I have been absolutely everywhere and cannot find a close match to the fabric I need. I found Jamawar silk at Fabric Times or whatever it’s called in Mississauga, but it won’t match my suit. I have no choice but to send a sample piece back to the family in Karachi and pray they can find the same kapra for me. :bummer: I need all of your duas.
