Jal in India!

*india learned something new today. its about time JaL got some credit.

from bollyvista posted on 4.25.05 :*

The recent chartbuster from Mukesh Bhatt’s ‘Zeher’ (shot on Emraan Hashmi, Shamita Shetty and Udita Goswami), ‘Woh Lamhey Woh Baatein’ is actually a hit track by the well-known Pakistani band, ‘Jal’. It featured in their album ‘Aadat’, which became a smash hit in Pakistan more than a year back.

One of the band members (Atif Aslam) who broke away from ‘Jal’ is said to have unethically taken this track and released a faster version of it (calling it ‘Bheegi Bheegi Raatein’) in his own album, ‘Jal Pari’.

Mahesh Bhatt got Atif to sing the track for Mukesh’s ‘Zeher’ and DJ Suketu to remix it. The track is a rage in India and ‘Jal’ is not happy that the credit to them has been omitted, considering it was the bandleader, Goher Mumtaz, who originally composed it.

*bollyvista then came with this news.
  *

Yesterday we broke the story on the chartbuster from Mukesh Bhatt’s ‘Zeher’ (‘Woh Lamhey’) being taken from the album of the noted Pakistani band, ‘Jal’. The latest to reach our ears is that the band (headed by Goher Mumtaz) is expected to come down to Mumbai this May to do some live gigs and also sing the original ‘Lamhey’.

The original album (called 'Aadat') is being released in India today by HOM Records. Go for it!

:dhimpak:

Re: Jal in India!

it would be interesting to see what Atif comes up with next as curerntly he is riding high on Jal's songs/compositions. He has a good voice so maybe he'll be able to make it. I wish Jal had a better singer than Farhan. He makes a wonderful song sound pathetic w/ his vocals :(

Re: Jal in India!

o c'mon rukhsar, he aint THAT bad.

The Numero Uno band of Pakistan, Jal, who performed in the city on Friday, left spectators asking for more.

Pakistan band Jal performing at Bandra. From a local street urchin to the businessman in the high rise, all fervently seem to hum that heart-rending track, 'Woh lamhey' in every nook and corner of this dynamic city. It's the flavour of this season, the song on every radio station, the blare of every stereo-system in the fly-by-night cars and even forms the unpretentious whispers of one to his beloved. The creators of this phenomenon, the Numero Uno band of Pakistan, Jal took the audience by storm for the first time in India on Friday at the amphitheatre at Bandra. The hour and half performance of the songs from their debut album, 'Aadat', released in India by Hom records with their enthusiastic grooving to the foot-tapping music and indomitable spirit left the spectators enthralled…only asking for more.

The young trio recently bagged the Indus Music Award for the 'Best Band of 2005', in competition with Strings, Fuzon, Josh and other popular Pakistani bands. The band consists of 23-year-old Gohar Mumtaz, the lead and rhythm guitarist, vocalist, composer and lyricist; Farhan Saeed, the 21-year-old lead vocalist and Shazi, the bass guitarist. Their sound primarily falls in the pop, soft rock genre. Playing along the lines of Latin acoustic guitars, their main emphasis is on melodies and lyrical content. "We truly believe that music is the world's universal language capable of bringing, entities even nations together. We feel home here in India. The response has been so warm and motivating that we want to only make soulful music that you cannot live without!" said an unrestrained Farhan, the singer with a distinctive vocal style that showcases a gentle vulnerability and tenderness.

"We want to be like Jal- water, that makes its way wherever it goes, our work is straight from the heart and we thank Allah greatly for his grace … as such success can only be His gift, candidly confessed Gohar, who formed the band in 2002 at Lahore composing his first song by the name 'Aadat' and began his search for like-minded musicians. "To meet these two, from different cities and then being so appreciated by the masses back home is all luck and destiny, with our willpower and talent too." On being asked about the fact that the film 'Zeher' stole the accolades by the remix of their track, they said, "Initially we were hurt but now people do know that the song is our original composition. We met Mr. Mahesh Bhatt and he told us that he was misguided…and also the two versions are completely different."At the end of the concert, Jal signed several autographs and clicked pictures with eager teenyboppers, as they excitedly shouted for attention, to be called on stage. The trio was here from Pakistan with a peace-note and receiving this overwhelming response in just five days they decide to make a trip back to the city in the first week of June. "As for now we go back to give our exams in Pakistan and then globe-trotting to several cities to perform," said Farhan is doing his computer science course.

PAKISTANI GROUP JAL PERFORM IN INDIA!
Popular band perform ‘Who Lamhey’ in Mumbai…

Pakistan music group Jal, the original composers of the rocking number ‘Woh Lamhey’, recently performed live in Mumbai. Their track has become hugely popular throughout the world and was introduced in India through the recent Bollywood movie ‘Zeher’. The band received a fantastic response after performing it live at the AMPHI Theatre in Bandra, Mumbai.

Jal consists of Gohar Mumtaz (the lead and rhythm guitarist, vocalist-composer and lyricist), Farhan Saeed (the lead vocalist) and Shazi who is the bass guitarist. HOM Records & Tapes has also released Jal’s album ‘Aadat’ in India, which consists of ‘Woh Lamhey’ amongst the 10 tracks on the play list.

The band loved to perform in India and said, “It was an exciting trip and singing live before the Mumbai audience was surely a thrilling experience. We came here with a peace note from our home land Pakistan and hope these ilks of such cross borders performances will help bridge the gap between the two countries. We will soon come to India again.” Expressing on Zeher controversy, they said, “We are aware that the number ‘Woh Lamhey’ has been loved by the Indian audience but we want to convey that it has been very popular all over Pakistan for last two years. All we want is due credit for this song.”
