Re: jahez...
i think you should include whatever you think that you will use and take with you to your new house whether it be jeans and tops or sarees/formal outfits. Something that you will be using and needing and won't have to ask your husband-to-be to buy you in the beginning of the marriage since you probably will feel hesitant spending or asking him for money incase you wanted to buy something. Ofcourse a few desi outfits will be needed to go to dawats and stuff but if you are in the west you should have nice western clothes too to wear for if you both go out n stuff or if you both have your own place you may feel comfortable wearing more casual dressing instead of shalwar kameez it depends on your needs but take whatever you think that you will be needing and using as opposed to the norm of heavy formal outfits jewelry sets etc etc
Re: jahez...
^ yeah i agree with you MsAshoo
for my jahez i had done a variety of shalwar suits ie heavy embroided suits, some medium embroided suits and quite a lot of simple suits that i can wear at home and some that i can wear to relatives houses.
i was thinking that because some people are from the west they wear a mixture of asian and english clothes so those people mustve bought some english clothes to add to their jahez so when they go out shopping or sometimes out to eat they would for a change wear jeans and stuff and also at home they might wear english but if ur living with sasural then shalwar kameez is better
but my sisters getting english clothes but i told her not too put in jahez, like pack it in a seperate small suitcase/ holdall because its not necessary to show english clothes as it would be for your own purposes...
also i dont knwo why people buy their jahez and then include it in their wedding film because theres no need. you can just show it to your sasural before the wedding when they ask, no need to publicise it as it is a personal thing.
Re: jahez...
i thought it was only the jewelry that is really showed to the in laws because it is usually more talked about? why need to show them everything i mean eventually they will come to see it anyways when you wear the shoes clothes and stuff to the parties or at home if you are living with them but i would feel totally awkward if i had to display everything to them and let them comment on whether i brought "enough" material things with me. does that still happen these days i thought i was long gone? and imo i think that this custom often leads to families ending up buying a lot of waste to show off or to not be looked down upon
Re: jahez...
ill have every type of dresses but showing is odd in my eyes! so ill buy wat i need & ill wear
Re: jahez...
stuff is shown to inlaws... ???
but why?
I never knew tht...
I am taking alot of western outfits...
I barely wear salwar kameez and stuff.. soo I dont feel like spending soo much on them... (they are superrr expensive where i live)
I will take a few for dawaats but thts about it..
Re: jahez...
Probably not, just cuz I can buy those on my own pretty easily. But my MIL did include a few cute sweaters and things in my bari :D
Re: jahez...
The in-laws come over just to see your jahez? Like a viewing party? Something is wrong with our society...
Re: jahez...
^Yep, thats what I have observed lol
The packing everything in a suitcase & not showing anybody sounds good.
Re: jahez...
I totally agree with u Muslimah. our society has become very materialistic.
Re: jahez...
I'm gonna pack everything in my suitcase & lock it up & swallow the key. My in-laws love to gossip & talk about money. Ughhh.
Re: jahez...
@star4u Why don't you just take your jeans n stuff (which you have already been wearing before your wedding) with you? =S Or is it normal leaving everything behind and just taking those 20/25 joras of jahez with you? I can't even think about leaving all my wardrobe at my mom's house!!! lol
