Jackets for men

I wanna buy a christmas present for a good friend of mine who is so broke he doesnt even have any money to buy a winter jacket :frowning: Problem is I’ve never really shopped for guys much, especially not for jackets and such… so please guppies post some pictures of nice winter jackets that are stylish yet do the job when it comes to keeping warm. I like northface jackets on guys but dont know if thats really in anymore… havent been paying attention to many boys recently :halo:

Money is not really an issue so post anything but try to keep it under $400-500 thanks

Re: Jackets for men

no one? :(

Re: Jackets for men

Which part of the world are you in ? You do not have to buy 400 , 500 dollars jacket for a good cause. You can buy many jackets for that kind of money for other deserving people too.

Re: Jackets for men

Riya… what kind are you looking for? Wool coats are always very versatile and stylish. They can be worn with jeans or dress pants. I love North Face… but it tends towards more casual. How about buying a fleece jacket, and a wool coat? For within $500, you can get both, especially with this season’s deals. Here are some pics w/ links of what I like:

You can’t go wrong w/ a classic single button men’s wool coat. These two from BR and JCrew are perfect examples:

And here’s a great one from North Face. It’s lighter than the NF 300 fleece jacket, and can be worn inside a coat for added harsh winter protection:

lol. Mirch is jealous you ain’t buying it for him.

Re: Jackets for men

Mirch if you must know I pitched this idea to my friends and its 3 of us adding money in for the jacket.... it doesnt come out to more than $150 really and he could use it for many many years to come. When doing something for others I always get what I would normally buy for myself or family. No way am I gonna go to like kmart or something and buy like a $90 jacket that'll fall apart by next year.. if im gonna do something nice I might as well go all the way, right? :)

Re: Jackets for men

syani I love the ones you posted however im leaning for more of a casual outerwear jacket for him... we'll see what happens though and what we decide on.

I really like this one north face that I see people wearing.. it looks all high tech and whatnot with all these zippers and stuff on the front.. I dunno what its called but it comes in red and black and black and grey... anyone know what the name might be? I cant find it online :(

Re: Jackets for men

500$ ??? wow

this looks good.

Re: Jackets for men

keeping it lower than 400-500 ?? u've got to be kidding me!.. a very nice stylish jacket would cost you not more than $150 or in some cases $200..

What is wrong with Kmart or Walmart ? :naraz: It is such a ghareeb perver store. A part of my wardrobe consists of fashion wear from Walmart . I bought most of my banyan , underwears, shirts, T shirts, chappals , sweaters from there.

however, I doubt that is the only items you wear

Oh yeah I forgot about jeans , I don’t go out in t shirt and underwear only . :o:

Re: Jackets for men

Riya it depends on the person's style, plus how it will be worn, how warm does it need to be.

all i would say is that fads come and go, so if you are buyign something in the 500 range, u may want it to be something that is not going to be oiut of style in a season.

if its one jacket then it should be versatile enough..but thats the issue not knowing the person, i have no idea of his style.

for example sake if we assume someone who sometime dresses casual, jeans hoodies type, sometimes dressy, and sometimes kinda smart casual..then you would need something that would work with the diff looks. you would want a colour that would go with other things.

Re: Jackets for men

Go to the eddie bauer website Riya. They have a half off sale on outerwear.

Do they ship too?
I need a winter jacket too. I am so glad I could use this thread,

Re: Jackets for men

yes i think they do, punching monk

Re: Jackets for men

Ok this guy like NEVER dresses professional or classy or anything like that. He's a student and works part time as a mechanic fixing cars and whatnot... I've actually never even seen him in a button down and dress pants.... so a more casual jacket is just what we need. I was thinking more like northface, spyder or something but I like the website Nikki suggested... very cool stuff! Thanks :)

Re: Jackets for men

^ If you guys are spending $500 then why not get him a thick warm winter jacket and a light spring/fall jacket?

Just a thought.

Riya, this is a very nice thing you're doing. :)

Re: Jackets for men

I personally would recommend a Parka. If he doesn’t have a strong jacket then #1 thing is functionality. A hood is a MUST in extreme conditions and the jacket must be able to hold him in the cold as long as possibly can.
Also you mentioned that he is not a formal dressy guy - so somefin like this : http://www.besportier.com/archives/spiewak-snorkel-parka.jpg

It is generally acceptable to wear this over tie / button shirt (in extreme weather) anyway.
I am sure he can coup with fashion / light weather wear himself. Your objective is to get him somefin for winter, right?

P.S: $400-500 is a high budget.

Re: Jackets for men

Riya… the Northface link, with every kind of men’s jacket you could desire. Enjoy:

I do however, suggest that once you find what you like, try sites like EMS, REI, etc to find the best deal.
