Jaan Jaan India lands Reema in court

Jaan Jaan India lands Pak actress in court
Islamabad: Pakistan’s popular film actress Reema, facing a charge of treason for singing a pro-Indian song while in the United States, furnished a bond of Rs 20,000 ($400) to a court to assure that she will not run away from the trial, press reports said on Tuesday.
If convicted Reema, known for her sexy roles in Pakistani films, could be sentenced to death or imprisonment. A private citizen filed the charge after she sang “Jan Jan Hindustan’’ (India is my life) at a concert in the United States last year.

It was an altered version of a patriotic song entitled Dil dil Pakistan, Jan Jan Pakistan, sung by a Pakistani pop group several years ago. The complainant’s ire was aroused because Reema’s rendition was broadcast by an Indian television channel at a time when tensions between the two nations had touched a new height in the wake of the Christmas-eve hijacking of an Indian airliner, by Pakistan-backed Kashmiri militants.

Reema appeared in burqa in the courtroom in Lahore on Monday. The prosecuting lawyer demanded that the veil be removed to establish that it was really Reema behind it. But Judge Allah Bakhsh Ranjha did not agree, saying he was satisfied it was her.

Mohabbat yar, Reema isn’t going to be stoned - although there is a good case for it cause she defiled one of the all-time great Pakistani patriot songs. She is an artist baba, and artists can generally be persuaded to do the most outrageous things in the name of art.

We aren’t talking about a future Qaid-i-Azam here. we are talking about an actress who makes her living shaking her money-maker

Most of the actresses in Pakistani films are from ‘slightly dubious’ backgrounds (ask my pal NYAhmadi) so we don’t expect the highest standards to be upheld from those people in the first place.

Take my word for it - it won’t be too long before you see Reema in all her glory once more - minus burqah

dont forget Atiqa Odho, she was also involved in this thing

I thought it was Atiqa that was charged not Reema!

Beauty Lies In The Eyes Of The BeerHolder

I guess she should be tried and convicted.
I could care less what she sang and where she sang..
but..what gives the actors the idea that they can sing?
I mean its show business but not many are like Will Smith to be able to do both, although in my view he sucks at both as well.

Let me listen to the song..if she did not sing it well, we hafta make an example of her so no other actor thinks about singing or singer thinks about acting, unless they know how to do it.

Which reminds me of that chump Mohsan Khan the cricketer and that one indian bloke who also moved form cricket to movies. what happened to those bozos?

Mr. Xtreme,
"Reema isn't going to be stoned - although there is a good case for it....."

So you agree that there is a case for it ! Your law guarantees that if she's convicted the punishment is death or imprisonment ! So I guess you'll basically agree with Thackeray when he said that Morarji Desai and Dilip Kumar should've returned their Pakistani awards. If merely singing a "pro-India" song can get you a death sentence, then should India tolerate our people taking awards from Pakistan !

where did u get this article?

Bombaykid

Reema won't be stoned b/c Pakistan is not a country governed by islamic law. Otherwise she wouldn't be making her films in the first place.

You have to understand that Pakistan has been run by secular govts for past half century b/c unlike India the public never voted the fundamentalists into power.

As a secularist you should side with me on this fact.Indian public obviously amires the fundamentalist islam that is why they are trying to create a fundamentalist hindu state. read my BJP and the Indian Govt. post in the politics section to get a fair and impartial view of the govt elected by the hindu majority in India :)

You have to understand that Pakistan has been run by secular govts for past half century b/c unlike India the public never voted the fundamentalists into power.<<

Is this a joke of some kind, if not then what is secular government doing in Kashmir. Why different law for minorities and other for majority? Also, why not a secular personal law (monogamy, equal rights for women etc.) as practiced in Europe and the country you live in.

Mr. Xtreme..
"You have to understand that Pakistan has been run by secular govts for past half century b/c unlike India the public never voted the fundamentalists into power."

HA HA HA !! That was a good one !!! I seriously had a good laugh on that one ! Don't give us that b/s Mr. Xtreme. You guys didn't bring religious parties to power, but you definitely brought "fundamentalists" to power. There can be no doubt about this fact. Your nation was founded on the basis of religion -- your governments can't be anything but fundamentalist !! In any case you haven't had much chance in your 50 years to "vote" for governments of your choice, but whenever you got the chance, the governments were all fundamentalists -- each and every one of them -- NO exceptions !!
I can't seem to understand one thing -- you guys should be proud of your Islamic ideals and your constitution, the same way we are of our secular constitution. BE PROUD and say you're fundamentalists ! There's nothing wrong in being one. Since you guys hate to admit India's secular character, I take it that you view secularism as a virtue and are ashamed of being an Islamic state.
Mr. Xtreme you should not only be proud of your Islamic constitution but also disagree with the concept of secularism. The idea of secularism is against the very foundations on which your country was based. So don't even think that you're secular.
I don't think you guys are mad fanatics though. So if there is a communal riot in Pakistan or if some member of a minority community is harmed, even then I would not say that you are fundamentalists, BUT if the Supreme Court orders a member of a minority community to be hanged for some utterances, then I would definitely say that you're fundamentalists and there is the sanction of the government for such acts. Although I must say that you've not reached the level of Afghanistan but don't worry, you're getting there. It's just a matter of time.

funny story.she wont be convicted but she should apologize for ruining the lyrics of Dil dil Pakistan by bringing them indians into it.i dont care what happens to her.
reema sucks anyway.meera is the babe that rocks.

Oh gawddddd

can you amateur politicians leave any section alone?

sheeeesh.

Branded anti-Pak, actress thumbs her nose

Kamal Siddiqui LAHORE: Sued for "degrading the name of Pakistan" just because she appeared in an Indian television show, Reema, the reigning queen of Lollywood, Lahore's film industry, says she has "no regrets whatsoever".

Her appearance in an Indian TV show in 1998 in which she advocated better relations between India and Pakistan, along with other film and TV stars of the two countries, provoked a fellow Pakistani into taking her to court and charging her with "anti-state activities".

Twenty-two-year-old Reema is considered to be one of the hottest stars here although unlike Bollywood, there aren't many challengers in the wings.Speaking to The Indian Express at her Lahore home, she says: "I know everybody is after Reema but this is not the way to unseat me."

The programme, which was aired on an Indian satellite television channel, is widely watched in Pakistan. Reema, along with two other Pakistani stars, TV personality Atiqa Odho and Sajjad Ali, a popular singer, appeared in the programme which caused some controversy at home since Reema was accused of singing Dil Dil Pakistan, Jan Jan Hindustan.

Despite denials, a committee of the Parliament was set up to look into the incident and a case was initiated against Reema, in her hometown. "There is basically no case. There is nothing that they can go on," said Reema dismissively, when asked whether she is upset over the implications of a legal battle over her appearance.

But Reema said that the case has been made out by the "gutter press" since she had quarreled with them over their "cheap reporting". When asked whether she would again appear on an Indian TV programme, Reema said: "Of course, I will. I am a Pathan girl and am not cowed down when I know I have done nothing wrong."

Reema said that the purpose of her appearing on an Indian TV channel was to dispel the impression that Pakistani film actresses were all uneducated and unpresentable. She said that she would continue to work for the upgradation of the image of Pakistani filmstars, since there was an serious image problem. "Not only do we make bad movies. We also give bad vibes," she said.

Currently, Reema is shooting for two films, Khuda Qasamêr and Uff Yeh Biwian. The controversy surrounding Reema's appearance has made the Pakistani showbiz world sit up and take notice.

Ghazal queen Iqbal Bano said that while it may be right to pursue those Pakistanis who gave the country a bad name abroad, in Reema's case "no damage has been done". Bano said that the artistes were the best ambassadors of goodwill that a country had, and "Reema is no exception".

I heard that the land that Reema dances on is unable to grow any crop for the next 7 years :)that true?

or was that anjuman?

since when has reema suddenly become 22 years old? has she been aging backwards or something? and as for the pathan part..thats a laugh man! she's a god damn punjabi from heera mandi. she should keep her mouth shut about being a pathan or some physco from the
Northern Areas is gonna go to lahore and kick her ass

reminds me an old mystery.. madam noor jehan's birthyear.. 1922 or 1929.. none knows and the lady wont tell..
in india a neighbor of mine told herself to be younger before election officials when they were issuing identity cards and got herself in trouble. ther are some concessions for 65+ people and the lady wont have it. she would rather lie about her age.
p.s. if she is indeed from hiramandi, as sherlock claims, then how can u be sure that she is pathan or punjabi or whatever. she may be pathan.

Question: Is she a good looking actress ?

thats cos she's given tons of interviews in which she has said she is a 'proud punjabi'.
her lil sister is a 'proud owner of an entertainment club'.

well.. the all time greats like Nargis and Begum Akhtar have come from 'kotha' traditions. And they perhaps lived their life more gracefully than many others coming from so called respectable families.

who gives a fuck?
