J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

And Pakistan has already petitioned the Chinese government to manufacture it in Pakistan...

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

He was referring to the canards ("frontal fins"), which the F-16 doesn't have.

Ailerons & Elevons are different things.
Ailerons are only found on the main-wings (outer edge), and control the roll of the air craft (left/right). The Elevators on the Horizontal Stabilizers stabilize the pitch of the air craft (up/down), and control the position of the nose. Elevons are also only found on the main-wings (near the fuselage), and function by controlling both the pitch & the roll.

He was of the opinion that the J-10 looks exactly like an F-16, if you take out J-10's canards. And, I already explained the features of J-10 which differentiate it from the F-16.

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

Ah so…

My friend an F-16 pilot once told me the difference, I just got the terms confused…

But it’s a fact, Canards are more stable and provide more maneuverability than rear ones…

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

what about SU-30MKI's place in the top fighters?

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

Well, Su-30 MKI is said to be nearly equal to F-15 Eagle. A Chinese personnel was quoted by CNN as saying that J-10 is superior to Su-27, but inferior to Su-30.

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

^^ I wouldn't doubt it is inferior to the MKI, but its real specs are still unknown. Some American from Washington was quoted as saying that it may be comparable to the EF and Rafale.

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

Thanks for sharing.

I think it is pretty evident now that the designs are NOT the same.

Even the fuselage is not the same - F-16’s is wider.

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

LItems, if J-10 isn't much of a fighter then why is US deploying F-22s in Japan and F-117s (these babies are supposed to be retiring soon...) to South Korea?

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

it looks like a f22 raptor to me

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

u cannot judge an aircraft based on its airframe.... *
*specs. counts the most.

now u do the pros n cons...speculations wont get u anywhere
Su-30 is in service for a while ....j-10 just came out of the closet.......
give it a lil bit time ...and then we'll have a better discussion......after finding out more about J-10....SU-30 is a fine aircraft....cuz we know a bit about it.

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

like jaan leva said it resembles the lavi most .....i think there was some isreali help in its development in the early 90s ...anybody knows about it ?

Re: J-10 Fighter Officially Declassified / Pakistan Negotiating

An Amreekan analyst draws conclusion on new Chinese fighter J10.

http://www.strategycenter.net/research/pubID.140/pub_detail.asp

** Conclusion **

All indications are that China has successfully completed the development and commenced deployment of a competitive 4th generation combat aircraft, that when modified with better engines and AESA radar, perhaps in the near-term, will provide the PLAAF and its clients with a multi-role combat aircraft competitive with advanced versions of the F-16C/D Block 50+ and the Boeing F/A-18E/F. Even with advanced features, it will be sure to beat the U.S. fighters in terms of price, which offers the chance of real success in the market.

This is not good news for any of China’s neighbors: not for Japan, or Korea, or for Taiwan, which was just had its request for a small number of new F-16 Block 50s rebuffed by Washington. Nor it is good news for India, once the J-10 lands in Pakistan. Middle Eastern and Latin American countries may prove interested as well. This news will disappoint Russians who had looked to a steady stream of Chinese purchases to fund their own advanced aircraft development. Finally, this not good news for the United States, which will now require far more than the U.S. Air Force’s currently planned 182 Lockheed-Martin F-22, the only 5th generation fighter available to the U.S. which offers decisive superiority over the J-10 and J-11. Nor can the U.S. cannot rest on its laurels. China should not be expected to take another 20 years to unveil its 5th generation fighter designs.
