IVF issues

My sil who is 37 years old is proceeding for IVF but she got to know that her AMH level is 0.8 and antral follicle count of 5, which leaves her with 10/15% chances of success. But they are also saying that with extra doses of some medicines they can raise them. Need some suggestion what to do as her husband is of opinion that ivf is very expensive here and chances being low so they should go to Pakistan.

Re: IVF issues

she should talk to her doctor about taking supplements - mainly DHEA and Coenzyme Q-10. This could help her. She should take this daily for 3-4 months before she even does the IVF. Tell her to research on her own online and not only rely on what the doctors say.

About the cost, yes it is very expensive, but check with her insurance company. A lot of them do cover the actual procedure, and some could cover the medications involved, which are also very pricey.

About Pakistan, I dunno. I've read horror stories about IVF/egg donor in India and mixups, etc. I could imagine would have the same issues.

Read the sticky on successful fertility treatments.

Re: IVF issues

as per latest news doctor has prescribed her birth control pills for 21 days then she will go for lupron evaluation. After that she will be moving on to gonadotropins and menopur injections, doses will depend upon the results of her test results. Does it sound ok?

Re: IVF issues

my SIL just had unsuccessful IVF cycle, they got 4 eggs, out of which 2 didn't fertilize the next day n rest of the 2 the next day. Now she wants to try acupuncture and some herbal supplements, what do you all suggest?

Re: IVF issues

thumbs up for accupuncture.

what days did they put the eggs back in? day 3 or day 5?

Re: IVF issues

they were not put back. And regarding acupuncture what should she keep in mind? there are lots of people offering these services so difficult to decide which to choose.

Re: IVF issues

so why do you think her IVF was successful? All it takes is one egg to have a baby :)

tell her to ask her RE, usuallly they would know a Accupucture Doctor that specializes in fertility.

is she taking those supplements i suggested earlier?

Re: IVF issues

accupuncture works wonders.. most IVF clinics work with accupuncturists so you should be able to get that info from them.
As far as treatment works, and costs come into play.. check with your IVF clinic if they are doing any research in the field. I gave some contacts to one of my friends who was going in for IVF and they used her results for the research and that way covered all her procedure costs and many meds too - so ask around..

Re: IVF issues

even doing accupunctures during IUIs can work wonders too :)

Re: IVF issues

I said it was unsuccessful. she was desperate to go for IVF at that time and just did as her doctors said and didn't take these extra supplements but now she wants to try these things first, as they are suggesting her ICSI now but she is afraid of it because of risks of disorders in the baby with ICSI.

Re: IVF issues

Now she is having trouble in selecting the acupuncturist, her experience with her fertility clinic was very bad so she doesn't want to continue with them so no point of going with their suggestion. So there are lots of acupuncturists around but what is the thing that we should look for specially? All of them are providing fertility services rates are good but which one to go for so confused, please help in deciding.

Re: IVF issues

where did you hear about disorders of babies with ICSI?? i never head of this. My SIL did ICSI and mashallah has a beautiful healthy baby girl.

is your SIL in pakistan or in the states? Any accupuncturist that specializes in fertility is fine. Nothing to be confused about.

Re: IVF issues

She is in states. We did our own research and got to know about icsi. Even babycenter has mentioned it too. The point is previously she didn't do any research of her own n relied completely on her RE n suffered their statements are changed now. So that's why taking more time and even getting confused. But thanks for your help.

Re: IVF issues

Yes that sound ok ;)

21 days BCP
Lupron
Gona and menopur

When they do the ultrasound they will see how many follicles- if too many they will lower the dosage. Too many eggs will course OHSS.

Re: IVF issues

Go to Chinese or Korean acupuncture - tell them you want to do acupuncture for fertility. Normally (in Los Angeles) they will charge you around $65 for one hour. One hour is enough. Do it before eggs retrieve and after the eggs transfer.

Good luck to your SIL. :0
