I've issues with Ramzaan banner

Few of them I can think of at this point, as I’m in a hurry, and believe there are various other:

1- It’s Ramzaan or alternatively Ramzan, not Ramadan. What’s Ramadan anyway? Here you have urdu words like “mubarak” (which should really be “mubarik”–for once I know my zair from zabar  ), “gupshup” which are totally urdu words so what’s Ramadan doing there? I protest to the ostensible wannabe Arabic FOB spirit which seems to have pervaded this place like sand up a camel’s crevices.

2- Ramzaan is a cultural event for you blighted spirits of unawareness and knucklehead-ed-ness. It should be celebrated as such. It’s not a religious/spiritual venue to purify your souls. When was the last time God rewarded you with enlightment in return for these archaic practices? Let me guess, never  (and no, “still breathing” or “have my health” isn’t really a godly reward, it’s your basic I’m-a-God’s-creation right – see my point about enlightment  ).

So Ramzan is a beautiful occasion aided by cultural niceties of food, early morning rising, lassi + chai drinking, samosa consumption, rooh afzah absorption et al. If you really want to feel spiritual then buy a Hindu a drink. God will reward you over such gesture of cross-relgious solidarity.

3- The color on the banner is completly inappropriate in a non-sexual inappropriate sort of way. It darkly blue. Looks like kissi baiwa kee ujaRi hooee maand, kissi suhagan ka luta hooa ghar. At worst it feels like Heer Jr.'s sard aaH only Ranjha left her for some other woman this time around (remind me, is kacha ghaRa related to Heer or Sohni? )

Ramzan is sprightly. Show it as such  If you really want to show sunrise or sunset (you can’t even tell in this case, btw) then have some shokh natural color like Yellow, orange, ruby red (which I think should officially represent kissi suhagan kee khumar bhari adh-jagee neend the morning-after or rut-jaga as such… same thing same thing–how that aligns with Ramzan is a totally different discussion and I don’t have the time). But blue is gloomy, dark, paranoiac, depressing.

4- What are those small white wheels on the side? Are they supposed be (deformed) diamonds? (Diaquiri) umbrellas? What? Please don’t tell me those are stars… for the sheer reason that THOSE ARE NOT STARS!! Seriously, have you ever seen a star? Been to one? I think not.

Re: I’ve issues with Ramzaan banner

snowflakes i think

and the site says RAMDAN, not even ramadan

Re: I've issues with Ramzaan banner

Roman, its the thought that counts,

Re: I've issues with Ramzaan banner

i want to know too.. what does Ramzaan have to do with snowflakes?

Re: I’ve issues with Ramzaan banner

If you ask my aesthetic opinion on the picture itself in a not-for-ramzan sort of way then I’d say pic is ok as it is. But if those are snow flakes then god forbid if I ever get my hands on the artist

Re: I've issues with Ramzaan banner

Those are not snow-flakes. Those are cross-sections of an okra (a vegetable) to remind us of iftaari. The water underneath represents sherbet (rooh afza)

But, yes, Ramdan is an infantile word completely devoid of meaning.

Re: I've issues with Ramzaan banner

oh it also resembles some islamic motifs i saw at the MET museum

Re: I’ve issues with Ramzaan banner

Roman, Those aren’t snowflakes like those weren’t pillows…ullu!!

They are coasters for the chai…a much more symbolic illustration of ramadhazaan than the color green, some arabic script with the word god or even a picture of me holding a highball of JW BLue.

and schweetums…as if you go to the met.

Re: I've issues with Ramzaan banner

Thank you for opening the thread and saving me the trouble Roman.

Re: I've issues with Ramzaan banner

all you complaining, why dont you go an submit a better banner (which of course has no flaw and is in perfect harmony with the Universe) I promise you I will put it up.

(and no, I didn't make this one)

Re: I've issues with Ramzaan banner

^ aww...Gizzy don't take it personally...Roman hates everything...he is perpetually and innately crabby. Vaisey, you got to admit...this banner sucked big time. Can you bring those white kids back from the Independence day banner?

Re: I've issues with Ramzaan banner

Now that I have read ur post Roman I'll add a little. Why the full moon? Isn't it always the crescent thats related to Ramzan and Eid? Couldn;t anyone of the ppl making the banner make it more relevant?

Re: I’ve issues with Ramzaan banner

i do. to check out the islamic jewellery section.

Re: I've issues with Ramzaan banner

come on guys its just a paki forum not a MUSLIM one.

Re: I've issues with Ramzaan banner

While I do have some comments regarding the picture, but, let me take this moment to educate Roman. My dear Romeo, it is nice that you see Ramzaan only as social occasion, however, do keep in mind that for the majority of the Muslims it is a religious/spiritual month and will remain so till the end of time. Your thinly veiled refrences to progressiveness are nothing but little stones which as usual do not amount to much. Muslims will never let Ramazzan become Christmas. Furthermore, it is a month in which Muslims are ordained to practise their faith and show solidarity. The Eid that follows is called Eid-ul-Fitar for a reason, you may need help getting that translated (since you are little short on arabic/farsi/urdu vocabulary). This month is the month where Muslims should learn about "giving/charity" and practise it throughout the year. So you see chanda, lets leave these religious matters as they are, because reforming Muslims does not equate to changing the very essence of Islam.

Have a blessed day & May Allah guide us all to the right path.
Ameen
