IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

Hey people. Long time no talk. I kind of miss being on GS. But been super busy.

So this time its about the IUD (Paragard)

Any experiences?

Pros & cons?

Also Islamically short term birth control is allowed or not? I don’t want opinions. Only facts if anyone can provide them that is.

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

I've been thinking about an IUD. The pro for me so far is I wanted something that was hormone free and the copper IUD is...plus if you're not planning on kids for a while the copper IUD can last up to five years.

Haven't made up my mind yet on whether I'm actually going to go for it.

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

Thanks for starting this topic.

I've been looking into this too. What are the other options? Nothing is 100% of course so IUD isn't either. How does it work?

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

Ramsha copper IUD can go up to 12 years & yes I love the part that its hormone free. I have been thinking about it lately. Tried pills but that didn't work out for me at all. I am really inclined towards it but from what I have researched so far it turns out that with copper you get really bad cramping first few months & heavy bleeding all the way? That's why I thought I'll ask people here.

Spiral its basically an intra uterine device. You go to your doctor's office while you are in your periods & they put it inside your cervix. Its a five minute procedure & supposedly hurts as much as a pap smear might hurt.

gtg. Will be back with more details in couple of hours. But any one here who has tried it so far?

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

YES, it is allowed.

Come on people. 114 views & only 3 people decided to reply. ANY one here with IUD experience or know any one else?

Spiral youtube "IUD paragard review" & check out the first link that comes up. That woman has uploaded videos with updates of her iud use It does have a little tmi in it but its pretty useful. The only difference is she hasn't conceived or delivered a baby yet.

As I am not too sure about inserting a foreign object inside my body I had a good talk with my doctor yesterday. It turns out copper is fine. Yes there are side affects but then they rarely appear. The whole heavy bleeding & extra cramping is not a must either. You can conceive within days once you take it out.

I have read online that women have to take zinc to counter act with copper so they don't end up with extra copper levels in their bodies. That's not entirely true & rarely happens.

Point is I have done enough research & talked to my general physician as well as my ob gyn. This thread is just me being a "Desi" at the end of the day. I need some brown people reviews on this thing.

Also a more clear Islamic prospective on this issue.

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

I know people with IUDs. Lately, haven't been getting too many positive reviews. Looks like they do more harm than good, and can get very annoying. Best form of birth control will still be the good ol' pill, if you remember to take it, that is. There are also shots available I guess. Again I have heard mixed reviews for those.

Islamically, yes, if you want to delay pregnancy due to whatever reason, birth control is absolutely alright.

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

Thanks Niksik. How have you been?

What harm are we talking about here? Can you please give me more details. The pill or shots route doesn't work for me. Basically anything hormonal just ruins my whole body. I get severe leg cramping with hormonal birth controls.

Are you talking about things like IUD not remaining in place? Or Ectopic pregnancies perhaps?

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

Both problems, and one friend had excessive bleeding.

If the pill doesn’t work, how about condoms? Talk to your husband about that.

I’m well B_e_N. Nice to see ya :hugz:

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

^Same here :hugz:

Oh hubby jee is anti pills/IUD whatever. He is all about latex. Is never comfortable with me changing anything with my body. Lets just say I am not a huge fan of condoms & since I would love to be able to finish my school, let my daughter be at least 4 years old & not worry about childbirth every single day I was seriously thinking about getting an IUD.

Its all about taking the plunge. Should I or should I not. Since the copper one is hormone free. I have been really thinking about it.

With people that didn’t have it in place how late did they find out that the IUD had moved. I think you are supposed to check for threads that hang from the IUD every month to make sure if its in its place.

Also ectopic pregnancy is possible with the mirena or the hormonal IUD not with the copper IUD. Do you think you can find out which one were they using?

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

My friend got pregnant with her copper IUD in place just to let you know. SOmewhere along the way it had shifted I suppose.

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

Oh wow. Thats scary. Was she able to deliver a healthy baby? Did the doctors remove the IUD right away then?

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

That pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. Yes she removed the IUD. Her husband ended up getting a vasectomy as they don't want more kids :D

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

Oh dang. Now THAT's a route I am not sure I would ever want my hubby to take. Haha.

But wow. So she conceived with a copper IUD. I guess Istikhara it is now :D

Also anyone else still feel free to add to this thread.

Thanks yet again Niksik :)

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

Exactly how my husand thinks. He is against pills and shots and all that. We are in the exact same situation. He fears ectopic pregnancy too.

His aunt got pregnant at a really late age when she had IUD in her. You know nothing is 100%.
So really what’s the best option. Oh and with IUD you have to see your doc frequently to make sure its all good down there. No infections, no shifting etc.

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

So I talked to my friend about IUDs, since she has been using Mirena after she had her little girl.

Firstly, copper IUDs are a lot more cheaper than the other type. But I guess that's all dependant on your health coverage.

Copper IUDs are hormone-free, but they are more likely to shift while in use. She also had a friend that used a copper IUD and ended up getting preggo. And apparently, you can feel it shifting inside of you? I have no idea, since I haven't used one.

So to me it seemed that the Mirena might be the better choice (although you don't get your periods, and I'm not a fan of messing your system like that), but I'm biased since she my friend was telling me all the good points of Mirena.

And if nothing else, abstinence works great! :D

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

I have a mirena because i suffered with very heavy bleeding. Its the best thing I have ever done! My periods are very light and pain free now. I have 3 children mashallah and our family is complete now so for me it was the best option. I also had the copper iud after my 2nd child for about 2 years. I had it taken out and I was pregnant after about 5 months. as far as the horror stories go, the thing is, people only mention things when something goes wrong. you would never hear from anyone if everything was going smoothly would you? So we tend to think everyone must be having a bad experience with it.
Btw my cramps only lasted a week or so after the insertion.

Re: IUD Pros And Cons Anyone?

my cousin got pregnant with an IUD and delivered a healthy baby girl.
