iTunes substitute

A few similar topics have existed and I have looked at them.

But here is the deal. iTunes is a very invasive and a resource hog. If songs are downloaded/bought from itunes those songs they are pretty much stuck in the iTunes unless you want to find the file in an m4a (I think) format and then convert it .

I am sick and tired of converting formats etc back and forth so a software that can do that iTunes can do and also not hog my resources would be nice to have.

Some minor googling shows yamipod and floola or something…but it would be nice to know if someone has had first hand experience with a good software.

Why use itunes anyways?

Personally, i stick to just downloading MP3'z directly instead of having the music stuck in itunes.

itunes can help organize the data, music, and videos in ipods. Hence the question.

There's a software called Songbird and another one called DiscRevolt. Both have decent reviews for being an alternative to itunes.

From what I read on web - songbird works in collaboration with iTunes so itunes has to be installed for songbird to work. Defeats the purpose since I dont want to install iTunes in the first place.

I want to know if someone has had experience with a certain software (free) that does the same things as iTunes but without messing with my whole system.

did you try yumipod I used it long time ago just to make a copy of my ipod in case I lose whatever I have on ipod. It seemed very thin. I did not explore all the functionality of it.

fayax...i know i'm doin no good to serve ur question but i would suggest you try any/all software to see whether or not they work for u.

Also check another software called TuneBite.

not a problems Teggy...the thing is I wanted to know if someone has tried something first hand and knows that it works and has most if not all of the functions of itunes.

I know there are some out there ..just didnt want to go through the install and uninstall process. heh.

Thanks Mirch ...finally after looking at some screen shots and reading a bit here and there...in essence "googling around" I installed Yamipod. Was kinda dissappointing. I think it is great if you have lost all files on the PC and want your ipod media saved..but my data is triple backed up every day almost ..so just didnt want to corrupt my ipods firmware by playing with it too much ..

Alas ..I just installed iTunes. Another one bites the dust :(
