You don’t need Kies for the most part. Just to transfer files you can do it with Windows Explorer and on Mac using Android File Transfer utility. if you need to do updates using the computer (if you’ve bricked the phone) you use Kies.

I used Kies for backing up entire phone. Is that not the right thing to do?

The SMS transfer is bit complicated, Android and iOS SMS databases are incompatible. You need to backup your iPhone SMS on your computer and then copy it to your Android phone, then you have to convert it to Android SMS structure with an app. Tried it for a friend long back, and it worked.

Yes, that is what TLK suggested. Unfortunately it did not work for me.

What method or app did you use?
