Lajja: It’s a women oriented social subject. The movie satirizes the honor with which women are placed in society and the restrictions on them. The fact that the four women’s names (Maithali, Janaki, Ramdulhari, and Vaidehi) the ideal Hindu woman’s name, is a message in itself.

**Chak De India: **Chak De India emphasizes that women may not be physically stronger than men, but can put up a strong fight with undying energy and can match them even in the toughest of sport. The most feisty girl power movie to have come out of Bollywood ever.

**Astitva: **This movie shows and explains the importance of woman in society. Lot of questions which were explained in the movie like Does a woman have a separate identity within a marriage? Is the identity of a woman always marked with that of her husband’s?

**Daman: **The film follows the story of a battered wife. Daman is a film about one of the darkest facets of the institution of marriage, marital rape among the upper middle classes.

**Damini: **The theme revolves around the character Damini who represents truth and innocence.

Chameli: Chameli is the story of a prostitute played by Kareena Kapoor Chameli is about a single night chance encounter between a prostitute and a bank employee.

The women of Bollywood have had it much harder for succeeding in making it big to carry their fame through the years of a long-term career. With filmmaking becoming so increasingly global, we can’t afford to keep leaving the women behind.

Lajja, Damini and Dor were the most powerful and moving films about issues related to the emancipation/opression of women- Lajja I was personally moved by…they are indeed great portrayals of how society treats women unfairly …Lajja gets my vote and Damini was a great epic of its time!!! Great stuff :k:
