2021 Predictions
Will Mercedes sign Lewis Hamilton for 2021?
Will Mercedes remain dominant in 2021? in other words, will it be another year of "GET in there Lewis..." or will be it be a year full of "Bono... my tires are gone"
Will Sebastian Vettel have a good year at Aston Martin F1?
Will McLaren be a competitive team this year? Considering they have the new Mercedes powertrain for 2021.
Ferrari master Blan 2021? sBinalla?
How & Why?
Also, please don't let this thread die... like Romain Grosjean's career.
Lol, I’d suggest you watch F1 drive to survive on Netflix, it will help you get a grasp on the world of F1.
Got a lot of desi’s hooked on F1 by recommending that they watch the show. Timings a bit unfortunate though, with Mercedes winning every single WCC title in the last 7 years, and Lewis Hamilton equalling Michael Schumacher’s all time record of 7 drivers championship titles.
Hopefully, 2022 will bring about some real action, as the regulations are changing, with limits being put on how much a team can spend on R&D, and drivers salaries being capped at ONLY $30m per season.
2021 could be an interesting season as well, with slight regulations changes resulting in a ban on engine development and some of the mid field teams showing good potential towards the end of the 2020 season. Who knows, we might just see McLaren or Red Bull snag a world title this year.
But yeah, I would highly recommend that you watch F1: Drive to Survive, even if you don’t know anything about motorsports.
That’s alright, as you can see by my post count, I wasn’t around for that long. I used to mod the the ‘Machines & Gadgets’ sub-forum with Teggy because of my “vast knowledge” on the subject.
But yeah, 2007 to about 2010. Those were the days.
Good to know! The 2021 F1 season races have been great so far. With Red Bull leading in the points for both the drivers and constructors titles, for the first time since 2013, and first time in during the V6 hybrid era (2014-2021). Also, Red Bull seems to have the best car on the grid.
Max Verstappen has been solid, on the other hand Lewis Hamilton has been making mistakes under pressure. This is what happens when you have a 23 year Dutchman breathing down your neck at 200 mph.
Baku this past weekend was brutal. 2 red flags during quali, 1 red flag during the race.
It was heartbreaking to see Verstappen crash out on lap 46 of 51 (Thanks, Pirelli…), when he had been leading the race since about lap 8. But then I, like many, was cheering when Hamilton went off on turn-1 (he’s been making a lot of mistakes, I guess Verstappen and Red Bull are getting to him).
Verstappen’s crash lead to a race restart, and what a restart it was. Fresh tires, 2 laps, low fuel. Despite the disappointment, Sebastian Vettel (GOAT in my book) got his first podium for Aston Martin racing. [everyone liked that]
6 races in to the season, I think we can answer some of the questions in my original thread.
Yes. Hamilton signed on for 2 more years, unfortunately. But, the way things are going for Bottas, its very likely that Hamilton will have a new teammate next year.
So far, I’d say Red Bull has the better car. Their quali pace is slightly off Mercedes, but their race pace is better. Also, the Merc’s understeer a lot, which is why their pace has been so bad around a street circuit like Monaco or Baku.
Sebastian Vettel has been getting better, with 5th in Monaco and 2nd in Baku. He’s finally in his happy place with a supportive team and a team boss who also happens to be a huge fan. After the last couple of races, its safe to say that Sebastian still has all the potential for a world title in the next 3~ years.
McLaren has been showing fantastic pace. Lando Norris is such a fantastic driver. Definitely world champion material. Daniel Ricciardo, on the other hand, has been struggling. It seems that he can’t get comfortable behind the wheel of the MCL35, a common problem amongst most former Red Bull drivers, they have mostly struggled when they moved on to other teams.
It seems that Ferrari has won the driver lottery with Charles LeClerc & Carlos Sainz, fantastic drivers, and fantastic teammates. People might just stop making a mockery out of the team. Its so ridiculous that F1’s oldest, most successful team (they are basically F1 royalty at this point) hasn’t been able to produce a single championship winning car since 2007, despite having world champion drivers like Alonso & Vettel drive for them.
