It's coming soon ... Haswell-E and it's flagship processor - i7-5960X

I held back from buying the parts of a super home computer the barebones spec is as follows:

i7-4960X Ivy-Bridge E - with 3.6GHz clocked to 4 GHz, 15 MB L3 Cache and 6 Cores (12 Threads)

supported by an LGA 2011 (Asus Rampage IV Black Edition)

I spent some time investigating the best motherboard for that processor … but then I came across some news that hinted the new breed of extreme processor.

**So I held back …
**

i7-5960X is the new extreme processor with the Haswell micro-architecture (Haswell-E) … It will be released at a similar time to the announcement of the new micro-architecture format Maxwell by Intel …

The i7-5960X will be compatible with the LGA 2011-3 motherboard type (a new X99 chipset) and they are making prototypes in anticipation to the release now so they can hit the market quickly when the new chip does come out.

Going by these sites the new socket will enable:

upto 4 discrete graphics to be bolted on to the unit
4 x DDR4 2 GHz

But as impressive or more is the processor itself - it will have 8 cores (first ever in home CPUs) at 3.0 GHz clocked to 3.5 GHz the i7-5960X will be able to yield between 20% to 40% greater performance than it’s little cousin the i7-4960X. Worth waiting for … since the price difference will be small …

Intel Haswell-E Official Specs, Prices Leaked in Slide Deck Before Launch | Custom PC Review

I estimate for the max memory, top range motherboard and chip bundle to cost about

$2300 … Do you think this is worthwhile investment? … considering this machine will probably be in the top 10 power machines for at least the next 12 years.

Total cost including all peripherals … $4000

Look out for announcements next month …

Re: It's coming soon ... Haswell-E and it's flagship processor - i7-5960X

At the moment I am using a computer that is very old DELL Inspiron and a laptop that is fairly new Acer Win 8 ... I need to check which models ... So why do you ask?

Why do you need such a powerful pc? Unless your gaming psyah bro...

Re: It's coming soon ... Haswell-E and it's flagship processor - i7-5960X

i m thinking to have one power full computer for 3d rendering in adobe after effects and bitcoin mining. so just making sure that burn money at once not in parts.

Re: It’s coming soon … Haswell-E and it’s flagship processor - i7-5960X

Sidi … It will lead on to actualising one of my hobbies which is 3D graphics modelling, animation and visual effects. Yes it would be good for gaming … Although I’m not a gamer person … Building it in a fraction of the cost of a branded computer will be like the kinder surprise element of it … Last time I built a computer from scratch was in '98. Technology has moved on a bit since then. I like to remain capable with my hands …

I didn’t have bitcoin mining in mind at all, the new member asadnow2k seems to have it all worked out.

For me this would too much of a distraction in life … The thing is I don’t actually agree with the principle behind bitcoins however I don’t agree with cash either …

they have alredy planned to counter your plan :)
soon after that purchase you will feel you are running short of memory and processing power.

It’s here

Intel® Core? i7 Processor Extreme Edition

Re: It's coming soon ... Haswell-E and it's flagship processor - i7-5960X

why not get a dedicated graphics card if that is your aim? a lot more GPUs than this processor at a lower price.

Re: It's coming soon ... Haswell-E and it's flagship processor - i7-5960X

Get the 5930K (for half the price) or even 5820k (for 1/3 of the price), they are all Hasswell E micro, only difference being the core count, invest in better graphics cards. if you are into 3D Modelling/Rendering, get the PRO cards (nVidia Quatro series or AMD FirePro series) or even in SLI configuration. 3D Modelling and Rendering are GPU bound, even the lower end 5820K got 6 logical (12 HT) cores, enough for a normal workstation needs (unless you are running 3D render farms). If you can tell me your use case, i can give you a more detailed CPU/Mobo/GPU suggestion.

Best of luck with the build, bro! :k: It’ll be an awesome machine.

Once I saw this thread (not-withstanding the proc name) I had to double check to make sure it wasn’t brought back from 1999 :hehe:

I don’t see any mention of SSD’s to speed up the computer. You need that more than you need all that memory and graphics. Unless, ofcourse, if you’re mining bitcoins solely.
