Pak need to go after fanatics for its own good, but for one reason or another, Pak is bound to get attacked sooner or later.

First it was Obama threatening Pakistan with direct strike, and now it is Edwards. Clinton has also given veiled warnings.

WASHINGTON, Sept 8: John Edwards, another Democratic presidential candidate, has said he would send US troops into Pakistan to target ‘extremist hideouts’ if Islamabad refused to respond to reliable intelligence.

“I want to be clear about one thing. If we have actionable intelligence about imminent terrorist activity and the Pakistan government refuses to act, we will,” Mr Edwards said at a campaign rally on Friday.

He blamed the Bush administration for not doing enough to force Pakistan to shut down ‘terror camps’ inside its territories. The 2004 vice-presidential candidate, now running for president, said: “We ought to use our tremendous tools — diplomacy, arm sales, trade, foreign aid — to get states to shut down ‘terror cells’.”

He also referred to a recent report by 16 US intelligence agencies claiming that Al Qaeda had established a ‘safe haven’ inside Pakistan’s tribal areas.

“We have given the Musharraf government billions of dollars of aid in last several years, yet they have done little to get control over these areas,” he said.

Mr Edwards also said that future US aid to Pakistan should be linked to the country’s performance in the war on terror.

It will be harder for the Yanks to get out of Pakistan than from Iraq...howzaaaaaaat... :D

When Imran/CJ iftikhar was in full USA was very uncomfortable.
It looked like(at that point) that pakistan would release it self from army/usa/crupption
And would become a strong would country like Iran.
USA can't handle that kind of pakistan and having pakistan's it hand dirty in al-qaida thing -USA will use that excuse to reduce pakistan strength.

I sadly agree. We are in the cross hairs. Remarkably, US Presidential candidates talk of attacking Pakistan openly.

It does not matter. You are saying this probably because you will be safe outside of Pak.

Pak should stop its reliance on Americans and Europeans.

This is why it is time for Pak to start getting investment from China and Russia. American/Brit investment should be welcome, but should not be too much in total investment percentage.

We dont attract Russian investment, and most US investment is private too. Its not these firms who will attack Pakistan. It is the US govt.

Pak needs (a) ICBM's or (b) a nuclear powered attack submarine.

Either of those would secure a non aggressive US stance, and they'd provide Pak with a capacoty to strike back. As it stands, we have no deterrent against US aggression.

And rely on Taliban to invest in our economy with their chapals and beards? Not even China will come to our aide if we let the taliban take control.

there's very little chance that pakistan will be attacked by usa. sending troops in to hunt jihadis and atacking are two different things.

in fact I'll be surprised if that wasn't happening already - only bush cannot say it public

Strong country like Iran. That must be a joke.......

From which angle is Iran a strong country. Have you ever been to Iran and seen poverty of the common people and heavy pockets of the ruling religious elite? The only thing which is keeping a revolution away is probably the heavily subsidized price of oil in Iran, which is indirectly keeping the prices of other commodities in check.

Two leading candidates have threatened Pakistan with direct strikes, even when Pakistan has been going all out after the fanatics.
No matter WHAT Pakistan does, Americans are NEVER going to be satisfied.

Perhaps Pakistan should unleash its 600k strong manpower to these areas and annihilate them.

Or carpet bomb Waziristan!

In fact, USA has conducted small-scale operations in Pakistan many times...Only that Pakistan's military cannot admit it for loosing face and the $$$s and Arms they are getting from US of A
