Its a general question, but I am putting it in religion since it has very strong religious undertone. I feel that In this time and age Muslims (especially from Pakistan in general who had the opportunity to have higher education) have a very low threshold for the concept of Itibaa ﻉﺎﺒﺗﺍ or “to follow”. Is it lack of scholarly research or self-righteousness to the level of arrogance? I really don’t know.
But this thing has caused a lot of damage to our religious and Socio-political environment. Religiously, we were told to pick a leader even if there were two people traveling. I always thought that in salat when we pick someone to lead the prayer, we are basically intrusting him to represent us. Being a Muslim, nothing is more important than standing in front of Allah, and in this act we have to pick a leader, but this is not the case in our social and political behavior.
Socially in any given social event we have everyone who wants to become a chaudry and politically it’s a different story.
I really didn’t want to target any particular group but being familiar with many highly educated Pakistanis lead me to this question. I might be wrong about this, but still I want your input in the concept of Itibaa ﻉﺎﺒﺗﺍ.
