Hi,
I am wondering in Pakistan if having items over 10 years is considered embarassing? I am talking about items such as plates, glasses (not monumental items) just standard items?
What about furniture etc?

Re: Items over 10 years
Just be grateful for what you have...no matter how old..only small minded uneducated people look to see how old something is..if they are still serving their purpose..why replace them? if something isnt broken, you dont fix it! dont care about what other people think..they will talk anyway they always find away..just be the better person and be comfortable..some people have nothing..
Hi,

only by nouveau riche.
A lot of people I know proudly display their 20 years old Sony TVs and cutlery they bought just after they got married, etc.
Re: Items over 10 years
as long as things are durable i think this thing does not matter....................
:k:
Re: Items over 10 years
old is gold
Re: Items over 10 years
Why would you be embarrassed? Consider yourself very lucky, you have a lot more than many people in the third world do. We should never compare ourselves with people who are 'above' us, rather we should look at those who have less than us and then look at what we have and consider that we are blessed.
There are people in the world with worse problems than how old their crockery or furniture is.
Re: Items over 10 years
Nothing embarassing about it at all. I don't think most people even care about such things maybe a few but then those few should not matter. We have furniture as old as 10 years or some maybe more but that's the best furniture we have ever had and the one we got just 2 yrs ago is nothing compared to the old one. So who really cares?! it depends on yr satisfaction with what u have. The world can't and shouldnt dictate to you.
Re: Items over 10 years
Stuff bought 25-30 years ago might still be found in homes across Pakistan (and the world), since it was durable, reliable, and better engineered in general, with parts that were made by the product manufacturer itself. However, over the past 10-15 years, with cheap electronics flooding the markets, durability has taken a back seat, and honestly, any household products bought in the past decade or so will probably not last beyond a few years.
That is why you will see more and more people changing stuff more often these days.

***What goes around , comes around !
So what might be old today is all the rage tomorrrow !
I love old things , they have so much history attached to them , makes them all the more desirable !

Re: Items over 10 years
in Uk they have old furniture that dates back to 150 years. It sells for big money.
who cares as long as it serves the purpose.
Re: Items over 10 years
Thanks for the comments. I agree that old is gold, however I find when I go to Pakistan and meet some of my relatives as well as Pakistanies living in the UK when talking about any items they feel quite embarassed when you tell them you got that thing x number of years ago. I am grateful of what I have, however the attitudes of those small minded is really rude in my opinion. They feel because they are in a in quotes 1st class country items should be new each year or 2 which is unrealistic.
We have some things from my daadis' youth consider them more than 30 years old.:D But still not embarrased
