Recent item numbers of Bollywood movies are gaining popularity in Pakistan. These item numbers are vulgar, and sexy in nature. OTT lyrics also suggestive. What is your opinion on such songs and how they are impacting our culture and young children?
The other day I came across one on YouTube where the "actress" couldn't even dance. She was basically just moving around suggestively trying to be "sexy." Lol. It was super suggestive, to the point of vulgarity. I shall add the link if I find it.
In a couple of scenes, her movements come across as crass, rather than “sexy.” In my opinion, it is vulgar on so many levels. It isn’t just her “dancing.” Look at the expressions on the men around her. Their expressions are so lecherous and creepy.
I hate these songs. I have noticed in Pak it is considered madren and open minded. At weddings girls as young as 7,8 year old dance on these songs copying the exact moves of the actresses. I find it quite disturbing and shocking. I mean no thought is given by the mothers to the wordings of the songs or how inappropriate it is for children or even the adults. But at least the adults have an informed consent.
I am utterly and terribly disappointed at the growing trend of having “ITEM NUMBERS” in Pakistani films. Whatever one does in his private life, i am no one to comment on that…but when you are entertaining people, that carries certain cultural and religious responsibilities. We SHOULD NOT try to follow Bollywood. Pakistani audience has proven that they do not appreciate Pakistani women doing item numbers. WAAR, the biggest hit of Pakistan, did not have an item number in it. I hope and pray that the New Cinema of Pakistan not only evolves to be a source of entertainment…but a representation of our cultural, moral and religious values.
