Have you ever gotten training for them? Did some of em sound shady? Is it even valuable? Has it helped you to land a better job? Or even a job at all? I know of many people who go through them some are successful, some have horror stories and I am considering getting BA training even though there is no certification for it, it just sounds like something i would enjoy more than development. What do you guys think? I know of a couple of guys who are out there looking for BA jobs and they are having trouble but then economy in general is not that great here. Anyways, just wanted to see your personal experiences.

BA as in Business Analysis?
If so, there’s certainly a certification for it: the CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional).Check out the IIBA website at http://www.theiiba.org/
It’s a pretty comprehensive certification and there is a strict application and acceptance process. The exam itself is challenging as well. Overall, it’s more appropriate for people with some experience in business analysis.
If you’re just getting started though and want to go for training, it would help to compare the training program with the BABOK (available on the IIBA website) to see if the training program covers the topics in the Body of Knowledge. This will certainly help once you decide to attempt the certification.
As far as desi institutes go, I’ve had mixed experiences… I’ve been to one which was extremely professionally managed and offered quality training programs and then I’ve been to one which was the exact opposite.
The best way is to gauge this for yourself… check out reviews online if available… most institutes would allow you to sit in a few classes before you make a decision, and make sure you do so to make an informed decision.
