Compared to most other places, well maybe not India or China or one of those African countries. I have been reading the Pakistani business news for the past few months, so you know I already have my MBA!
Let’s take a mid sized corporation for example/
-
No one million regulations and regulators breathing down your neck. Even if there are, I think only ten out of a million get enforced.
-
Low liability for anything and everything. Ever heard of a lawsuit because a product was defective? Or ever heard of a multi crore ruppee settlement because someone didn’t read the label right? Didn’t think so. There may have been such cases, but those are far and few.
-
Employee loyalty. I don’t think every employee is job jumping over there, or asking for ridiculous benefits. Maybe some are, but I know plenty of people who have worked at the same company for decades.
-
Low competition. Well this is industry specific, but I doubt there is cut throat competition like other places. Maybe not in industries like cement or textiles.
-
No SOX!!!
-
Ever heard of a patent fight in Pakistan? I haven’t read of one yet! So likely no mutli kharab dollar settlement because company A decided to use company B’s intellectual property. Although I have heard of copyright and trademark fights, so there is a little bit of that.
Although, thinking about the downsides:
-
The good employees are probably always moving away to Gulf, US, or Europe.
-
Month long vacations for employees which reduce productivity.
-
Can’t protect your intellectual property.
-
Technology must be seriously expensive in Pakistan.
-
The security situation and lack of opportunities in other countries reduces growth.
