A Pakistani was abducted by a secret anti-terrorist force a few months ago. He was detained and supposedly ‘deported’ back to Pakistan. However he has not reached Pakistan and there is no trace of him. Apparantly, he must be in one America’s terrorist prisons such as Guantanamo Bay. The SA government doesn’t know anything, and the Pakistani embassy isn’t saying anythin either. Does this mean the US is policing the world and our national governments cannot even secure the basic human rights of its residents? What is the world coming to. I am so pissed right now. The missing guy’s name is Khalid Rashid if anyone wants to do a google search on the story.

nothing new. SA...well maybe... but here in Canada such things occured right after 9/11. several ppl were detained by CIA and sent to Syria, where they were tortured for 2-3 years.
Cdn gov't (although had knowledge) failed to free them, until the mounting pressure by 1 of Cdn protested. Took her 2 years of protesting...

yeah indiscriminate arrests are happening all over..consider the outrage over the whole reindition issue..and yet I find it hard to believe that much worse isn't happening in Pakistan but goes fairly unreported.

I mean I dont care whether he’s guilty or not, but hello we’re living in the post-Cold War era, where mysterious abductions should be a thing of the past. Come on man, whatever happened to basic human rights.

I remember going to a CAIR dinner in 2004, where the wife of that one Arab guy who went missing for 2 years, spoke of her ordeal. CAIR did do something in that situation, but at the end of the day I dont know how much difference such organisations can make.

here is the problem with these sentimentals rantings: They only emerge when non-local parties are commiting them. Have local govts. committed such 'atrocities'? Yes. Let's hear some hue & cry for them too.

does not explain why there are still saudi students joining harvard each year. Maybe he just did not meet the requirements or the competition was tougher for his program that year than it was at cambridge.

There are no human rights, its just a term that the western governments use too much when it suits them and ignore it when it doesnt.
