Advice needed from the IT folks:
For someone who has a little networkingadmin/help desk experience behind them, what do you think the outlook is for that person to get into Datawarehousing/Business Cognos/Business Objects. He also did course on SQL Server and used it minimally at work…and also lot sof related experience with servers/installations…etc…network admin job functions.
Also any idea about job market for person that knows SAP…or above mentioned technologies. Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.
Create your profile on Monster and Workopolis (and other online job sites)
Spend 2-3 hours really really making it proper. Make it exhaustive
Log in everyday and update your profile i.e. change one character, like a fullstop
Repeat
Keep repeating for as long as you're looking for work.
Doing so will bring your profile to the top of the queue everyday when recruiters search for potentials. When they search for something, results are sorted by default by Date Last Updated. They will only go through the first few pages and your name better show up in those first few pages everyday to get noticed.
Within the first week of doing this you will start getting emails from recruiters anywhere from 3-10 a week. That will tell you how the market is and where the demand is.
Thank you Cheegum and Nice Usman.
Cheegum - Even before making a resume for that and job hunting, I am interested in the scope of said technologies. He is in the process of studying right now and learning. He does Inshallah plan to go for certification once he is ready. However thank you, you provided great tip for when job hunting.
Nice Usman - We are in the US, Northeast Tri-State Area.
OK I understand that certifications help, but with a world of an expansive amount of technologies.... I am asking opinion of that field? Any ide aon job market in doing Business Objects/Cognos/Data Warehousing. Anyone here in that field?

I don't work in that field, but constantly interact with people who do. There certainly is great demand for people with these skillsets - esp. with generally greater emphasis on business intelligence and performance management. Also you mentioned SAP experience, which, again, in general, is great! but what type of experience? functional modules? development?
Also, many firms that don't already have ERP installations are now looking at SaaS and Cloud based solutions for BI and PM. This trend however does not mean that someone with traditional ERP or DBM experience will have to worry. In fact, the same skillsets need to be adapted toward these new technology models.
Let me clarify, the person does not have SAP experience. I was wondering what the market is like for someone that does know SAP. I didn't know the details of what type of SAP experience there is. He is right now studying/learning/practicing Business Objects/Cognos/Data Warehousing right now. I just want to get an idea of what the market is like and job opportunities etc. (Rather what is in demand).
My cousin who is in working in that field right now, has recommended for him to go down that path and is helping him. He suggested that in the beginning it will be tough but even if you get your foot in the door on any project, even short-term just take it. Even said he may have to do several different consulting positions (possibly mostly short term) to really get some experience.
One of the e-books my cousin gave him is "[size=5][size=5]
Im not sure about US afro.. but if he has done SAP or planning on it, I believe he could really get into the Utilities IT section. A lot of the larger Utilities companies here in Aus use SAP. I am not sure about US but they probably do too?
Business Objects (is the new name for Crystal Reports yeah?) are widely used by people developing in .Net... i reckon they are a plus point. Most companies find it quite handy to have someone like that on their team who could basically take care of the reporting tools.
SAP is an excellent tool... companies pay a lot for SAP consultants.
Another thing maybe he should look at is trying to get into the mobility field. This I believe is the next big thing. Its getting huge here... every company wants to go mobile.. how about he get some mobile experience, develop a prototype for some mobile solution and i try targetting companies... like even Logistics companies that have an IT section?
