It is True!

Hujjat ul Islam Imam Al-Ghazzali (Rahimuhullah)

Translation: Imam Ghazzali (rah) said that whenever anyone is in some difficulty then **he should ask the people of tombs for help, **who are of (sacred) souls but have passed away (i.e. transferred into another dimension). There is no doubt in it that any person visiting (their tombs) gets spiritual help plus benefit from them and many times **when their Waseela is presented in the court of Allah, the difficulties are removed **[Tafsir Ruh ul Ma’ani, Volume 30, Page No. 24] **Click here for Scanned Page (41](http://ahlus-sunna.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=29&limitstart=40))

Re: It is True!

Once again a saying has been presented by this website from a Tafsir, the writer of which, did not even quote the chain of narrators for this saying of Imam Al-Ghazaali. Brilliant.

Are you unaware that this entire Religion is based on the chain of narrators? There have been books attributed to Imam Al-Ghazaali, and Imam Al-Dhahabi (I bring him into this because in those allegedly fabricated books he has praised Ibn Taymiyyah), which have been rejected by the scholars of Ahl Al-Sunnah since the chain of narrators by means of which those books have reached us are not authentic.

So, would you be nice enough to contact the owners of this website to perhaps, at least, quote the book of Imam Al-Ghazaali in which this quote of his is present or the chain by means of which it has reached us rather than give a second hand resource in which this quote has been quoted.

**The Books of Imam Al-Ghazali**which are authentic (i.e. have been written by the Imam and not attributed to him falsely)

As for the Tafsir which they mention which contains this quote you can read the quote in the Tafsir here. As you can see the author totally omitted the chain of narrators probably because there was none!

Anyone who has spend any time reading Tafsirs is well aware that even famous Tafsirs such as those of Imam Al-Tabari and Imam Al-Qurtubi contain fabrications in them.

Re: It is True!

And while the absolute lack of a chain of narrators back to Imam Al-Ghazaali is enough to have this statement dismissed as fabricated in the eyes of every classical scholar of Hadith, when you couple it to how it goes against an established authentic Hadith of the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) we know that it is of no value what so ever!

Ibn 'Abbas narrated:

"I was behind the Prophet(sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) one day when he said: 'O boy! I will teach you a statement: Be mindful of Allah and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you. ***When you ask, ask Allah, and when you seek aid, seek Allah's aid. Know that if the entire creation were to gather together to do something to benefit you- you would never get any benefit except that Allah had written for you***. And if they were to gather to do something to harm you- you would never be harmed except that Allah had written for you. The pens are lifted and the pages are dried.'"

[Jaami’ Al-Tirmidhi Hadith No. 2516]

Re: It is True!

And to now show the absolute incompetence of that website, its incorrect translations, and the fact that it purposefully deceives its readers consider this! Even the quote when read in full shows that Imam Al-Ghazaali did not say it!!!

Here is the full quote from the Tafsir

Note the part in red which reads And the Imam said:

The part in blue is what the Imam said which reads: Indeed it, after separating, the traces and circumstances become apparent to it in this existence and man sees his sheikh after his death. Then he guides him to that which is important to him. And it has been reported from جالينوس that he became very sick and the wise were unable to treat him so it was shown to him in his dream his treatment, so he regained health and he did it and then regained health.

Then the part in purple reads: And Al-Ghazaali had said it!!!

And now look at the part in green which reads: And for this reason it has been said (wa lidhaa qeela)!!!

What Al-Ghazaali said preceded. The phrase Qeela, it has been said, as any person who is spent any time reading Tafsir, Books of Fiqh, etc., knows means some have said!!!

This was never the statement of the Imam but of some people which this website has incorrectly translated and attributed to the Imam!!! God forbid. Is this what they stoop to to prove their point!!! :frowning:

Re: It is True!

And for those who are totally unaware why Qeela was said, here is your reason.

The phrase which has incorrectly been translated and attributed to Imam Al-Ghazaali (which he never said as anyone who knows Arabic an confirm from the above), was at one point in Islamic history attributed to the Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) but was rejected as a fabrication by all scholars of Hadith!!

Thus, it had become apparent on the tongue of people. Hence, the author’s use of the word Qeela - “it has been said” and not Qaala Al-Ghazaali which would have meant Imam Al-Ghazaali said.

A perfect example of deception on that website or utter incompetence.

Re: It is True!

And that is why you have the phrase interjected in the middle which the WEBSITE PURPOSELY DID NOT TRANSLATE

And it is not a Hadith as has been wrongly believed

The author makes clear this was not a Hadith as some people at once thought.

Rather, Qeela - it has been said - meaning some have said

What Imam Al-Ghazaali said has been written in Arabic as

Wa qad Dhakarahu Al-Ghazaali - And Imaam Al-Ghazaali has mentioned it (meaning he has mentioned what has preceded!)

Re: It is True!

So the title of the thread should be

IT IS NOT TRUE!

A website which has its translations all wrong!!!

Re: It is True!

I think it is a must to make a scanned copy of this BLUNDER of this website and distribute it across forums to keep people from being misguided. Let me take some screen shots of their website while they still have this up…

Re: It is True!

I have seen the quote from Imam Ghazali elsewhere, but I have lost where. However its pretty standard stuff. It is based on an athar which has been treated as a Prophetic Hadith, although the authenticity is ‘‘suspect’’ from that aspect. However it makes complete sense as a saying of a scholar!

Some other quotes from the net:

  1. Imam Shaa’faiee states: “I gain the blessings from the grave Imam Abu Hanifa and whenever I get into trouble, then I offer two rakats and then I visit his grave, and pray their for the solution, and ALHAMDO LILLAH my needs are always fulfilled.” (Al-Khairatul Hassan Vol 1 Page 38, Tareekh Khateeb-e-Baghdadi Vol 1 Page 123, Raddul Mukhrat Vol 1 Page 38)

  2. Imam Ibn-e-Hajar Makki Shaafai states: “It is seen from many years that Ulma and the people use to visit the grave of Imam Abu Hanifa for the solution their problems and make him waseela for the completion of their needs”.

  3. Imam Ahmed Bin Hunble states: “When ever someone(i.e.muslim) died in Ansaar-e-Madina then they use to visit their graves and recite Quran Kareem on their graves”. (Mirqaat Sharha Mishkaat, Vol 4, Page 81)

  4. Imam Gazali Radi ALLAH Anho said: “If seeking help from a person in his life is lawful then it is lawful to seek help from him after his death”. (Buhjatul Asraar)

  5. Imam Ghazzali states: “This is property of Auliya ALLAH that Blessings are found in their speeches, their breath, their clothes, their houses, and in the sand of their feet and at a place where he sits for a day” (Minhajul Aabideen Ma’a Sharha Sirajus Saalikin, Page 529)

  6. Allama Abdul Ghani Afandi Nabalsi said: “once i heared with my ears when I visited the grave of Arsalan Damishqi that a man said ‘Why you visit sand, this is foolish act’, I was amazed that a Muslim cannot say this” (Kashfun Noor - Page 19)

  7. Allama Shahabuddin Khafaji states in his commentry: “Visitng the graves of Aulia ALLAH and seeking waseela from them towards ALLAH is proved and All Muslim Ummah accept this belief. But their are some mulhideen who do not believe this. May ALLAH save us from their evil beliefs”

  8. Shah Abdul Aziz Dehlvi states: “The souls of Aulia gain more power and spirituality after their death”. (Fatawa Azizia, Vol 2, Page 102)

  9. Shah Waliullah Dehlvi in his book “Faizul Haramain”, Page No: 57:
“If Someone achieves mystical knowledge then his soul become so powerful that Tariqah, Maslak, Saintly chain, Lineage, Genealogy, Relations and everything connected with that person comes into the range of his favor and inclination; The favor of ALLAH, reflects through his spiritual attention”

  10. and in his book, “Hama-at”:
“This Guarantees for the regular attending on death anniversaries (URS) of the saints, regular visiting to their shrines, to recite Fatiha there, Distribution of Charity, to honor his offspring, relations and Relics are lawful in Shariah; and also these are supererogation (Nafl and Mustahab) actions.”

  11. Hazrat Daata Gunj Bux in his Famous Book “Kashful Ma’joob” said: “Do visit the graves of your relatives and beloved and do recite Fatiha and Yaseen at their graves, so that they should pray for you.”

Re: It is True!

Can we first agree on if we want to discuss

Istigathaa by means of the dead or
Tawassul?

Re: It is True!

It isn’t his quote. I searched the entire web in Arabic for it and all Arabic websites say some people said this.

This includes the Sufi websites and the Salafi ones.

Re: It is True!

More reason why not to take information from that website!!! The Arabic with the complete chain of narrators of that Qissa is

The chain has multiple problems!!!

Let me just highlight two - the narrator in red:

فإن عمر بن إسحاق بن إبراهيم غير معروف وليس له ذكر في شيء من كتب الرجال

For indeed, عمر بن إسحاق بن إبراهيم **** is not known and there is no mention of him in the books of Rijaal (in which Jarh and Tadeel is done of narrators!!!)

The narrator in blue:

** مُكرم بن أحمد

اتهمه الدارقطني باشتماله على الوضع والكذب بسبب أحد شيوخه ، واسمه أحمد بن محمد بن الصلت بن المغلس الحماني

Regarding this narrator according to Imam Al-Daarqutni he indulged in lies and fabrications because of his sheikh!!!

Re: It is True!

ok now i am tired…I don’t know even know why I am taking a Brailley website seriously.

One which, my posts above have shown, can’t translate properly, has no clue of the chains of narrators of sayings, and uses a saying of Imam Al-Shaafi which is fabricated to prove its point.

Time to sleep! ;D

Re: It is True!

Ok, If I bump into the quote again, I’ll post up. It was similar to the suspect hadith you mentioned earlier

Even something like ‘‘some people say’’ is bringing the subject into at least contention and discussion. It is what was being done at the time in any case. To some without an appropriate rebuke according for the climate of his time, He is one of us.

This topic is for pro seeking help at Graves, or at least its permissibility, quotes and sayings from Scholars.

This is not a debate thread, lets debate what you like in the other thread

Re: It is True!

That quote is not denied by Shafis themselves. It is accepted, and I have seen debates on the matter with Sunnis with knowledge of narrators taking part

Re: It is True!

In this case, you should have the title of the thread changed.

You cannot call something ‘true’ if it has not been proven objectively.

Re: It is True!

zeeshan you can deny the quotes for whatever reason, that is fair enough, but no debates on beliefs here please. Lets keep fundamental arguments to the other thread.

So you deny the Imam Shafi quote, I have seen your reason as well, and seen this argument before - I do not think I will personally challenge you on it.

What about the other quotes?

Re: It is True!

Wait Kaka, That was not the only thing to be added. I have other priorities. So this will have to wait

Re: It is True!

I don’t think either way it can be proved objectively. If a thing is open to questioning, you cannot call it ‘true’.

I have a question though.

How do we know a dead person is worthy enough to be visited at his/her grave and ask for help? Who appoints such intercessors?

Thank you.

Re: It is True!

Basically they have had to be known to be Muslims - that is a short criterion, if for example they were known to be pious, saintly and someone who strived in the way of Allah, for example in purifying themselves and or helping people - Such a person would be regarded as someone upon whom descend the mercy of Allah, meaning at his resting place. Standing besides their Grave would bring us Blessings
Now some people may need help, may be desperate and those people take the help of the inhabitants of the Grave.

The basic action in seeking this type of help for is proven from Quran and, and i say AND, Sunnah/History of the Muslims, and our Scholars. Basically we have always done it

However, some of the newer groups tawheed [Allah being One] is different. This action would be shirk in their eyes because it is going to creation, using intermediaries. They believe help should be sought directly, and they especially have a dislike for graves.

This video is aimed against Isis, but much of the ‘‘Islam’’ being pushed these days is ‘classroom isis’, it is worth a watch to slightly acquaint yourself
