I need help. When you do Istikhara, I know you dont always have a dream, or get a sign, but sometimes you get a feeling, or nothing happens, and then you are supposed to just proceed with what you had in mind, or the path is made easier for you.
Here is my dilemma, I got a sign, but its not clear…I dont know which way it is telling me to go.
Basically, its about a job. I was offered a role, but dont know whether to leave the current position, which is good, or take the other position which is better (but in a different city), or wait to see if I get the even better position (which is in the city i am in now) in a few months. So I did the istikhara, and then got an email from the people who offered the job (in the different city) asking me to committ to starting in January, and not take the even better position in my current city. So now Im confused!!! Which way is this sign pointing me too?
i think these things work ONLY when u are a true muslim/muslimah [its a general stetement and NOT directed at you by any means] if u fulfill Allah's basic commands only then u can expect Allah's guidance. one more thing...i notice that when the person who does the istiKhaara doesn't get the desired results he/she usually ignores it. so, whats the point of performing istiKhaara when u are already inclined NOT to accept it.
Im not saying that Im ignoring the results, but they are confusing to me, I dont know which way it is telling me to go.
Secondly, I have done istikhara before (on a rishta issue), and I whole-heartedly followed through with the answer I got. I was in favour of the rishta, but when i did istikhara, it came out really bad, I had a horrible dream that showed me only blackness and loud thundering rain. So I said no the rishta. Later I found out this guy had lied about several big things (visa status, past engagements of his, etc.) when they sent the rishta, so Allah had saved me from him.

I'm not sure of this is actually true, but I have just heard that you have to do istikhara a few times if you are not getting any sort of sign. So try doing it daily after Isha namaaz until you feel content you have found your answer.
I also heard it comes as a feeling and not colours and dreams.
a common mis cocneption about istakhara is that you will get some signal which will tell you that this thing is good or not. if you try to read the translation of the dua of istakhara it stats that whatever you want to do, Allah is kaam mai hr tarah say behtri dalay (duniywai behtri or akhrat ki). so .. if you do istakhara and you see something with +ve sign .. then it means you are good to go .. but if you don't then it DOES NOT MEAN that you are not good to go .. .. the choice is still upto you .. but in former case there is clear cut signal.
as @Iyla said. that after istakhara .. aap ka dil automatically us cheez ki taraf MAYL (inclined) ho jata hai ya phir us cheez say hat jata hai. so once you have done istakhara .. just let your feelings flow and you will know what is good and what not .. ..
secondly, you should do istakhara for continuous 7 days if you don't see anything in any dream .. .. but if u see it at the very first day, then stop doing it again n again ..
Iyla is correct, the purpose of istikhara is to give you direction and resolve to follow through on an action that's free from worldly intentions, that can't come from a dream or a sign, it's usually a feeling you get once you've cleared your mind of material things of this world.
thank you all. I did it for the 7 days, but did not receive any clear dream or sign. However, my feelings towards it have become firmer. Thank you for all your responses.
