Istikhara

What does it mean?

I have been hearing this term more and more on GS.

Re: Istikhara

I think many people have this idea that they'll see a dream which will let them know whether or not an action/plan/goal they're considering is a favorable one or not. But that's not necessarily the case.

When you pray Istikhara........you're asking Allah that if your goal is good for you in this world and the next......to make it easier for you. And if it is not good for this world and the next....then to turn it away from you and make your heart content with His will.

"Turning toward...or away from" does not have be done through a dream. I take it to mean that if something is good for you...then Allah will make it easier for you. And if it is not good for you......then Allah won't allow the plan/action to happen. Looking for dreams and stuff just makes things confusing because they can also be a reflection of your own thoughts and can be open to various interpretations.

Re: Istikhara

Its hard to believe so many people believe in this thing if this is really what Istakhara is.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Istikhara

Well Now that you know , you can guide them

Its strange that we have left these traditions

and its good if people are approaching this plan

what i could read was" its hard to believe people seek good from God and they believe He will bring the best for them"

sorry but people do believe and hope for best.

So, have you ever been contacted by God after you did istakhara?

Re: Istikhara

I think ive heard about this..is it when you read a dua of some sort and then randomly open the Qu'ran to a page and read the meaning and then if its a good thing you go for it?

Re: Istikhara

Indeed.

I think this is best suited to religion forums :aliyish:
