Istikhara

Salams.

ok i know this topic has probably been posted a lot of times before but im still gonna post my questions here.

I have never done istikhara. I want to tho…within this last week of ramadan about something that has me confused for a lot of days. Its a decision of my life.

So…how do i go about doing it? How wil i get the “signs”…? like dreams? “feelings”…or is it just like a dua for Allah to do wats best for us…so we just go with the flow?
and how many times can it be done?
if we get a result…in a dream or feeling or watever…if it FARZ upon us to do that then?
and last question…how do u do it?
i think u read 2 rakat namaz first? is it just a normal nafil namaz? or the niyat is different? and can u read any soorah after soorah fatiha or is there specific soorah for that istikhara namaz?
and what do u do after praying the namaz? just sit there and read soorat-ul-istikhara? where and when do u mention ur problem? and what is the dua? where is the soorat in the quran?

Any help will be much appreciated
Thanks in advance.

Re: Istikhara

AOA Rani,

this is how it is done; u read 2 rakat namaz (as if u r praying 2 rakat sunnah), follow up with zikr of Allah SWT, followed by durood, then read the following dua:

Plz note that in the dua above, the translation in english isn’t complete (dont know why)… the translation in urdu is complete though.

As far as dreams/ feelings go, then to my knowledge, there aren’t soun hadith for that. Point is; an istekhara shud be done after u have done your research, after u have consulted the wise around you, then u make the istekhara to ask Allah SWT for guidence. If things go smoothly, then inshallah you are on the right track, but if u feel there are difficulties ahead, then may Allah make it easier for you to make that decision.

i dont know how many times it can be done, but i cant see why there’d be a limit… istikhara is doing dua to Allah SWT 4 guidance…

May Allah SWT help u make the right decision that is beneficial 4 u in this world and the next, Amin.

Wassalam

Re: Istikhara

Assalamu Alaykum,

The method of istakhara is also explained at Procedure and supplication of Istikhara - Dr Khalid Zaheer. I point to this url because the text is larger, and it explains the method too. It is almost the same as what Pinks described except that the image that Pinks posted is not very legible, so this one may help.

Take care
