You can do it yourself. You can make intenstion of two nafal rakah istekhara salah after any fard salah. once you finished with nafal, you should read following duwa and visualize your choices when you reach at underline arabic word. It is not necessary that you see dream. Allah makes situation and condition and that leads toward best choice or your heart may tell you something on specific choice.

It depends on which fiqh you belong to. The method of istikhara differs from one fiqh to another.

You can do it, but it can be dangerous, cuz your own bias might lead to mis-interpret a dream. Better someone else do it, who will be objective. But dont go to these guys who charge money and nonsense.

What Sehrysh said: it depends on your fiqh. I personally believe if I am asking for guidance from Allah (SWT) why would someone else do istikhara on my behalf? To me it only makes sense if one does it themselves.

According to Mufti Taqi Usmani, Allah humma khirli wakhtarli is quickest method to take decision on spot. He recommends proper istekhara which i mentioned in my earlier post, but if someone doesnt have time to do then recite duwa and take decision.
Translation of above duwa: Oh Allah, select and like right way for me.

I prefer asking Allah myself. What irks me is when people get their relatives, one of their parents, a pious friend, and a maulvi to do istikhara for them…and then they complain that so n so got a good dream…and so n so got a bad dream…and so no so experienced an immediate feeling of unease/calm in their heart…and OMG it’s all so conflicting…yikes I don’t know what to make of it.!!! I think Desis have complicated the procedure.

LMAO. Soni, sweetie....first of all it's "said" and not "sad." Yeah, there I go again with the sarcasm.....although not quite as nauseating as your lack of comprehension. I never accused YOU of asking several parties to do istikhara for you. My comment was a general one and it was based upon actually reading about people who created confusion for themselves by requesting more than one party to perform he prayer for them. And yes, I do feel that we've complicated the procedure by bringing dreams and signs into the mix....when it's not necessary to see one...and when there are several people involved. There's nothing wrong in getting "others involved"...but too many people trying to interpret something can be tricky and there's nothing unreasonable about this point. Again, best wishes with whatever you're seeking guidance for.

Just read 2 rakat nafil and read the istikhara dua. Allah will make a decision for you which is best for you. No need to wait for any dream and interpret the dream. Either you will have a feeling that you should do or not do a particular thing OR Allah will make the decision easy for you. If no problems are coming in the way, it means you are guided by Allah to proceed in the same way.
