What is Istekhara?
My understanding is that people do Istekhara when they seek God’s guidence before making a critical decision. They get their answer in their dream. Has anyone over here done it before and how did it work out for you?

btw, you don’t know Allah’s answer through dreams. You more like know His answer when you’re awake. How do you know it’s ‘The decision’ & not yourself thinking what you want to think…well, you just know.

i’ve done istiqhara once for a friend.. and i’ve had istiqhara done many many times.
i feeel that istiqhara is essential in any decisions where circumstances make it difficult to make a clear and right decision. sometimes we feel that we want to do something.. and we do istiqhraa.. and the result comes out the opposite… and we wonder.. why is it such when it seems so good.. well.. Allah knows best. there is a reason for everything.. and even though things may not look clear at first.. things might turn out different later on. so since Allah knows all that is, i rely on Him the most in leading me to the right path

i am not sure but what i have heard is u should only do istekhara when its really necessary and not for every little thing that needs you to make a decision and comes along ur way.. i may be wrong !!!

Yes Mehndi it would be interesting to know how istekhara is done. Different people might have different ideas about it or may be not.
I know when BoSS does istekhara God is gonna say..."Dude long time no see! Its about time eh!"

but you can, pray istekhera on even the smalllessst things – it’s crazy!! yet, it’s not.
To pray Istekhera, just make your Niyyah, pray a normal 2-rakah prayer by reading any
Surahs you prefer, & then in the end, say the Istekhera dua as if it is like any other Dua.
yess boss i have done istekhara many times and fortunately it turn out to b gooood and helpful. doing istekhara means seeking GOD'S guidence ,in that way we dont make no bad decisions. and it is ture that v get answer of our question in our dream by seeing following colors. if v c blackor red color in our dream that means GOD is prohibiting us from doing such thing but if v c white or green color that means v have got a permission to do what v wana to do.
istekhara is always done after the ISHA prayers.its a simple 2 NAFAL and after praying 2 nafal simply say istekhara dua and ask the question of what u r sure and then go to sleep as soon as possible on ur right side facing QIBLAH.

Istikhara means to seek guidance from Allah.I have done some reading about Istikhara,I wud like to share it with U all...
Procedure:
There is a du'a for doing istikhara which RasoolAllah sallallaho Alyhe wa salaam used to recite.One can find it in many books.The proper method is that,U have to make 2 rak'a salah with the niyyet of istikhara and then recite that particular du'a and then make prayers.And sometimes when U cant make salah,U can just recite du'ae istikhara only as well.
Results:
There are some concepts about how to perceive the results of Istikhara.Some people think that it is necessary to do Istikhara at night time when U r going to sleep.There is no such thing.One can do istikhara at any time during the day or night.
There is another concept that after doing istikhara,one would see some kind of dream or some kind of indication in their dreams.So its not necessary as well.sometimes we can have dreams, sometimes not.
In case when you dont have a dream to interpret...there is a strong feeling in your heart either to do that particular work or not to do it!(it really happens...a personal experience).And in case if you dont have any strong feeling like that....U can still go on doing that work as u like,Allah Ta'lah would make that in Your favour as U have already taken His advice in the form of Istikhara.
There is this hadith...that a person who makes a habit of doing istikhara.would never be unsuccessful.
So whenever it becomes difficult for a person to decide about anything in his life,he can make istikhara...even the very minute decisions....as Istikhara is a source of making a strong connection between Allah and His slave!!
