Re: Istanbul- anyone recommend a two day MUST SEE intinerary???
But... i will not recommend visiting Ist. in fall.
Have plans set for summers... summers are elegant. Falls are windy and messy and snowy.
Then when u will be ready, i'll give u a detour, a virtual one.
Re: Istanbul- anyone recommend a two day MUST SEE intinerary???
Cold Fire is absolutely right. I went to Istanbul in Dec 2005 on Saudi Airlines straight after performing Umra. Weather in Jeddah was normal and I wore half sleeve shirt. During the descent in Istanbul roof tops visible from airplane window were white and some showing red colored tiles. Still I could't figure out that I was in half sleeves. While waiting for baggage, still it was warm inside. Very nice! As soon as the EXIT door opened, A COLD BLOW HIT MY FACE AND I WAS FREEZING LIKE A RAT PUT IN REFRIGERATOR! Took a taxi quickly, didn't fix price and went straight to Sultanahmet. The hotel guy laughed and laughed at me! His assistant took me to a market about half kilometer away walking on snow to buy a sweater. Can't forget that day in my life.
The tram runs from one corner of Sultanahmet (Heya Sophia Mosque, Topkapi museum side) to Aksaray (the far end). In between are few tram stops, many shops and restaurants. Famous Grand Bazar (covered bazar) is also mid way. You can do it in half day. After that, take a taxi to Taksim Square. You can't go there using tram as it is a different route. Istiklal Street is at the main crossing (chowk) of Taksim square. It is a long street with many shops and eateries. This all you can do in one day.
On second day, take Taxi and go to Esentepe Hills. This area is posh and up in hills. Only trendy shops there. View of Bosphorus Bridge linking Asia with Europe is amazing from there. Looks tiny donwthere. Visit AKMERKEZ and GALLERIA malls. If you have time, visit Dollmabacha Palace right at Bosphorus (sea). Hire a boat and don't forget to eat fresh seafood at various stalls. Amazing food!
