Trust me, there are plenty of things about Reham Khan that one may find quite annoying, but let’s start to move away from that backward mentality of objectifying women and going after their sexuality to put them in their place. It was not right when PMLN and Mullahs led a salacious campaign against Benezir over her University days, and it’s certainly not right for PPP fans to repeat the same thing against another opponent. Ironically, this is the party that claims to be ‘liberal’ and against religious extremism.
There are certain types of Pakistan men who are taught to feel ‘lucky’ when a pretty looking woman pays any attention to them, but I doubt someone like Imran is one of those types. 99% of Brits probably have no idea who Reham Khan is or remembers her face whereas Imran till date is still one of the most globally recognized Pakistani. Considering his network in British elite, just like last time, he could’ve once again married someone from British aristocracy or perhaps like Clooney and many British politicians, he could’ve married a top notch Human Rights lawyer or a Barrister. So the whole colonial mentality of how Pakistanis are not good enough for glorious ‘foreigners’ is ridiculous and patronising.
It’s a shame that in Pakistan, TV hosts and anchors are considered the new intellectuals. It’s really sad.
