I dunno why my skin starts looking dull and blackish as soon as i wear foundation … and all the makeup including the eye shades , starts looking dull and blackish …
I have used face primers and eye primers … still the same  … the minute i wash my face , suddenly the shine comes back and I lit up …
At my wedding when my MUA was doing my makeup i thought the same would happen .. but it didnt … but then they put like tonns of layers of foundation which is not possible on a day to day basis …
I have tried every brand of foundation … and without foundation its even worse !
What do you guys think is wrong ? or am i just imagining?
Ur not alone CB, without foundation my face has a peachy tone to it. and as soon as I wear foundation I feel like the colour becomes dull looking, I thought I was the only one who had tht problem :(
Do you notice this straight away or towards the end of the day?
Most makeup reacts with the oil your skin produces. Some become more orange looking (MAC foundations often do this) or sometimes it's just a darkening or dullness. There's not a lot you can do. If it's really bad, you might want to change your foundation.
That's why, when you remove makeup at the end of day, the skin looks a lot lighter and fresher suddenly.
I don't have this problem with eyemakeup though as all the stuff I do to them before shadow ensures they look fresh and bright all day. When I remove my eyemakeup at the end of the day, it's clear how tired I really am, lol.
yeah stoppit , I know what you mean … I even apply rose water as a base before I start applying moisturizers and light foundation … the dullness just appears immediately … and my skin is normal as well , its not only and not too dry … but i dunno whats making it that way …
Changed foundation , someone told me maybe the brush is not a good idea to apply foundation , so i just mix it sometimes in my moisturizer and apply it … still the same …
Purely for this reason , i keep looking for those colours that have a natural glow in them so it will bring the glow back into my skin …
Ive recently started using Bobbi browns stick foundation. I find they blend into the skin way better than mac foundations and doesn't leave me with a dull colour after woulds. spray fix+ spray either b4 or after u apply ur foundation. also I love using benefits High beam for an instant glow.....most days I prefer no makeup tho
Have you looked at the base colour of your foundation ? Some foundations will have a yellow or olive untertone. You might need one with a pink one. Also most department stores will have consultants at the make-up counters, have you tried asking for their advise or getting different foundations tested ?
I use the have the same issue and then I found Clarins true radience foundation...does the trick !
I think finding the right foundation is key.. in terms finish, not being dull immediately (later on may be inevitable to some extent) and a good skin colour match.
Once you have that, you shouldn't need to apply it everywhere. I only apply foundation to my cheeks and chin. Followed by a light dusting of a good powder all over to set it and even out the look; I think this is essential.
Personally, I don't like shimmery glow products. I would prefer to use a brightening pen (Dior Skinflash, EL Ideal light Illuminator) and dot and blend on the cheekbone area. This is also what keeps my eyes area looking good all day.
Before blush (unless I'm going for a proper bronzer look), I apply a thin veil of bronzer to my cheeks for subtle warmth, not enough that it will be obvious that I'm wearing bronzer.
You could try strobe cream but I think if you have the right foundation, you won't need it.
Do you put concealer on too? Try using concealer below your eyes. I've heard that Urban Decay primers are good. All I can suggest is moisturize your face well before putting on your makeup. If the foundation still looks dry and dull right after putting it on, try rubbing a cream/lotion on your hands then lightly pat your face. I agree though, I also feel that my face is brighter and shinier after I wash off my makeup. The problem is hyperpigmentation. A lot of desis have brighter/lighter/glowy cheeks, but then around the eyes and chin we have pigmentation that we have to use foundation to cover it. When doing this, the dark areas get hidden with foundation, but those brighter cheeks get darker/dull.
How about trying those shimmer sticks or bricks?- I forget the brand.
Has anyone tried Urban Decay's face primer?
funny i got a friend she uses too less foundation like she will take a drop of it and rub it all over her face and then say that its not the right color. maybe ur doing the same? like try putting a little bit more? watch sum youtube tuts maybe?
btw i think sheer creamy foundations work better than other types cuz they dont hide ur skin color altogether and give a dewy look.

This is why I prefer Bobbi Brown foundations (both stick and liquid) they don't make my face appear grey/ashen. MAC has a tendency to make your face look dull after a while. Makeup/concealing creams can never match the natural skin and complexion.
For the eyes, an eye-primer and overall base color will make a huge difference. CB, pat-on a highlighter to the apples of your cheeks after you apply your blush. It's a 'pick-me-upper' for tired and dull looking skin.
I have the same problem as CB, when i do use primer underneath, the skin doesnt look dull but it still looks darker (not like i have used foundation shade darker.... just dark

phew! im not alone :) well foundation (any pigmented creamy or liquid products) 'oxidize' so if you wonder why sometimes when you take a pic right after applying makeup, you look ghost white, and then an hour or so later you look so dull and dark? well, its bc when color 'oxidizes' it darkens. ever applied hair color and the hair color cream is white-ish and as you apply it begins to become brown? well, thats whats happening on our faces.
but the ashen look is a whole nother story, i think that can be solved with hints of mineral sheer powder. i have noticed i see it more when i do the matte finish, with creamy or porcelain finish it tends to look fresher. def the highlighters, i have yet to try to good one, will look at some of the ones mentioned above! thanks girls, i feel much better knowing im not the only one :)
oh i forgot to mention why i even wrote all that - so bc of oxidation try to get 1 shade lighter, i dont know why lots of desi girls run form this idea. but it makes sense bc it will oxidize and become darker, and also use blush/bronzer with shimmer, nothing matte except the foundation itself if you dont like that with shimmer
