=D that sounds like me a couple of years ago. Stop treating him and tell him straight that if he doesnt want to educate ,its his choice but he isnt going to get to live away.

Tell him if he can pay for his dorm expenditures, food, etc; then he can go. If not then he should live @ home and be thankful.

yall are crazy a 4 hour commute every day is so not worth it, for his sake let the kid move out and make him work to support himself (don't fully pay for his rent and electricity and what not) but 2 hours drive is like a new city.. also think of the hours it puts on his car. worse think of how crappy yall will feel if he's in an accident someday being tired and trying to drive home. moving out is a right of passage that not all pakistani families accept but i think since he's a boy and his school is so far he should have the right. then agian i don't know if he has bad or good study habits, what type of a crowd of friends he has but if he's a good kid and has stayed out of trouble then let him have some freedom and comfort of living close to campus.

Yes a two hour commute sucks, but if he expects your dad to pay for his tuition and dorm he better suck it up and deal with it or apply somewhere closer, but if he plans on paying it himself then he should be able to dorm.

Sometimes, you got to let them go to make decisions for themselves. Let em balance life while making daily supper, washing, cleaning etc....
I used to live 25 minutes away and still managed to miss all my up to 11am lectures/tuts......2 hours of driving woud have meant no uni at all.

I feel for the guy. 2 hours commute is too much nadz. Let the poor chap get some apartment near his school and can visit you guys on the weekends.

I think it just the age that he is in.. he goes to campus sees other mates who are also living 2 or so hours away from campus but have moved near the campus for studies.. at his age, he will rationalize anything just to be part of that group. So I think that's where his stubbornness is coming from.
I think your dad needs to have a chat with him.. plain and simple.. if he can justify his move by assuring that he is going to be responsible for the apartment rent food etc.. than let him experience that part of life.
Somethings can only be learned by first-hand experience.. and this is one of them..
