Israeli former Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami believes the fight in Lebanon will not destroy Hezbollah and suggests Israel should seek the solution elsewhere. “War is not the solution” Ben Ami said, disclosing that Israel’s disarming of Hezbollah and the destruction of the organization’s military capacity was impossible. He also said that Israel’s plan for a security zone in southern Lebanon would not prevent Hezbollah attacks. Hezbollah can only be disarmed by a comprehensive agreement, Ben Ami noted in his statement to BBC: “Hezbollah and Israel have created such a bloodbath that it will not be easy to deal with. I hope we will all come to our senses soon and deal with our problems in a civilized manner.”
Ami also claimed that the Olmert administration had intensely focused on Hezbollah since the administration lacked an agenda after everybody realized the escalating tension in Gaza and the impossibility of a unilateral withdrawal from the West Bank. Emphasizing that Hezbollah was a political power in Lebanon and a part of an ethnic mosaic, Ben Ami claimed that disarming or destroying Hezbollah’s military capacity was impossible. Ami said that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was not aware that Hezbollah’s long-range rockets might penetrate the buffer zone in the southern region. He added that a diplomatic effort could remove Hezbollah, but it was impossible with Hamas. Ami continued: “Hamas is not a military organization nourished by the foreign sources like Iran and Syria, but it is a nationalist movement. It has a political target, which is to save Palestine. Hezbollah, on the other hand, aims to destroy Israel and is armed by Iran. We are said to fight with Iran and Syria over Lebanon, which is not true. In fact, Iran and Syria started a war against Israel over Lebanon. Israel only responded to them in the same way.”
Leaders who ignore the lessons of history are more likely to repeat its mistakes. One of the few wise decisions ever made by Israel in relation to Lebanon was to withdraw its forces in May 2000 after an 18-year misadventure.
Comparisons are being drawn between the current campaign and the ill- conceived and ill-starred invasion of Lebanon in 1982, the main aim of the operation was to break Hezbollah - and in both cases the aim was unrealistic. No amount of external military pressure can bring about the forcible disarming of Hezbollah. It was not the Lebanese Army but Hezbollah that drove the mighty Israel Defense Force out of Lebanon in 2000 with its tail between its legs.

Killing children is wrong. Period. A "war on terror" cannot be won by a democratically elected government acting like a terrorist organization. War is too serious a business to be left to the generals.
It's great to see some Jews realize that is wrong. Now if the Jewish state would stop deliberately killing civilians - daily - as it has been, and get out of all the Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian lands they occupy will we see peace.

Today they bombed many major highways going from Lebanon to Syria. Those highways were being used by thousands of Lebanese civilians to escape hell. Now theyre stuck with nowhere to go. Way to go Israel.

It's great to see some Jews realize that is wrong. Now if the Jewish state would stop deliberately killing civilians - daily - as it has been, and get out of all the Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian lands they occupy will we see peace.
Hezbollah is integrated into the very heart of Lebanon and the only way for Hezbollah to be disarmed is by Lebanese people voting it for it to be diarmed.
The sole existence for hezbollah is to fight Israel and after Israel withdrew from Lebanon, Sheba Farms was another sticking point which caused hezbollah to continue to exist.
So hezbollah will continue to find excuses to exist as long as Israel exists.
the only way to get rid of Hezbollah is to show to the lebanese people that Hezbollah brings them more harm than good.
I think this event was crossing the Rubicon, as terrorist groups like Hezbollah cannot continue to exist in their present form
This was Hezbollah's last throw of the dice and international pressure will be so immense that Hezbollah will be integrated into the Lebanese Army and reckless actions like the kidnapping of 2 Israeli soldiers will no longer be on the table as hezbollah will take its orders from Lebanese Generals and not from Mullah's in Iran
Enjoy Hezbollah theatrics while you can because this is the last time that such a thing will occur

Jane’s Defense Weekly reports of surface-to-air missile transfer between Tehran, Shiite terror group

Hizbullah will receive shipments of surface-to-air missile systems in the coming months from Iran, enhancing the terror organization’s ability to shoot at Israel Air Force crafts, according a Jane’s Defense Weekly report released on Friday.
During a July meeting, Hizbullah called on Tehran to “accelerate and extend the scope of weapon shipments from Iran to the Islamic Resistance, particularly advanced missiles against ground and air targets.”
The magazine added that Hizbullah sought “an array of more advanced weaponry, including more advanced SAM (surface-to-air missile) systems.”

Israel backed by America has been killing hundreds of Shia’s and others practically daily in Lebanon for the last few weeks, and still we have not bowed to their demands. We will continue to survive and emerge victorious.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - A Hizbollah rocket killed 10 Israeli terrorist and Israeli bombs killed 10 Lebanese civilians on Sunday as the U.N. Security Council considered a U.S.-French draft resolution to end the 26-day-old conflict.
The terrorist were killed and at least nine were wounded when a rocket struck a group of reservists in the northern village of Kfar Giladi in the deadliest Hizbollah rocket strike of the war.

The Israeli army confirmed reserve terrorist called up for duty had been killed, but did not say how many. Medics and Israeli media put the death toll at 10.

That is a pre-emptive act by Hezbollah. Those 10 Israeli soldiers had just been called up for duty, and would have most definetely ended up taking part in the killing of dozens of Lebanese civilains daily, which has been happening over the last 4 weeks.

1982 Israeli mission was to wipe out the palestinian resistance and not the Hezbollah since Hezbollah didn’t exist at that time. Israel successfully accomplished that mission but then Hezbollah emerged out of it. So even if they succeed in suppressing Hezbollah (which is most unlikely since Hezbollah is far more powerful than the Palestinian resistance of 80s) then another such entity would emerge.

It was obvious that Israel will back down when their air campaign failed. Israelis did not have the intelligence on the whereabouts of Hezbollah, their leadership and weapon storage. Otherwise, Israel probably had wiped off Hezbollah easily, now they have no choice but to retreat and in that process the massacre they have carried out is unforgivable. International community has lost any respect they had for Israel and now the question is what the retaliation would be from Hezbollah?
Muslims and Arabs can gloat about this victory but they need to look at themselves and the reason what led to all of this. They need to understand that their army is weak and internationally no body respects their word. The only sympathies they get are when Israel commits a mass murder or United States does something unilaterally. This is not bright, they need to not only strengthen their armies for future purpose but also, at the same time, be politically wise and not fall into the same web that have led them and their people into misery.

12 Israeli soldiers are now reported killed in the Hezbollah attack on Northern Israel, and others are reported dead in south Lebanon. The number of Israeli soldiers killed is now approaching 60 - in less than 4 weeks.

More and more Israeli people are agreeing with the FM. In a public opinion survey published Friday by Ma'ariv, only 55% of respondents said they thought Israel was winning the war.
With the body count of Israeli soldiers growing day by day, people in Israel are losing the stomach for a fight.
