Just a question (out of ignorance)… Germany later on apologized and paid hefty fines for doing what Hitler did and banned the Nazism, they don’t claim to be “Super Power” anymore, they don’t poke noses around the world etc (one of the big reasons of US criticism).
What did America do regarding Hiroshima Nagasaki victims? Slavery victims? just curious.

Americans have done nada. But before you start criticizing us, just know that it is always customary for the vanquished to offer apologies, not the victor. Japan apologized to China, and Germany apologized to Poland. If America should apologize to Japan, then by the same token:

it was large german corporations like mercedes, siemens and others who benefitted from Jewish slave laborers during the war as well as the german, austrian and swiss banks who confiscated bank accounts from jewish customers that were forced to pay... not the german gov't.

In the case of the Belgian law, the International Court of Justice ruled that Belgian Court’s had no universal jurisdiction over leaders of other countries because they had diplomatic immunity from prosecution in those countries.
Then, a Belgian appeals court found the Belgian law could not be used to investigate or try people who committed crimes in other countries if they were not in Belgium.
Assuming that the Knesset adopts the proposed law, the first time it is invoked, the Israeli courts will review it and probably strike it down just like the Belgian appeals court did. If the Israeli court’s don’t do that, chances are the accused or the country from whom extradicition is sought will ask the International Court of Justice to consider the issue and that court would probably say the law is invalid.
The concept of “universal jurisdiction” of a court sitting in some country allowing them to try cases based upon activities that occur in foreign countries that do not cause direct injury within the country where the court sits is simply an abomination.

Now, what we need is a muslim country with some spine (ah.. too bad... unrealistic assumptions to start with) to pass a law that will give them the legal jurisdiction to prosecute anyone around the world who kills or injures or otherwise harms any innocent civilian (read: muslims). Ah, what a scene that will create. Bring it on.

Just another example of Israeli fascist tendencies, then again its their parliment and they can do whatever they like, who the fck cares. We sud start caring when they start implementing their policies, and that sud be a matter of concern to the civilized world. Such actions are reflective of a society hellbent on imposing itself on the majority, exercize censorship and speech control.

Similar argument can be used for the Muslim nations/people. Wasnt the Pakistani assembly offering Quran Khawani for Aimal Kansi, convicted killer hanged in the US? Given the opportunity, many assembly members are itching to say something in support of Al Qaeda, Hiba bill is just another example. Double standards.

Faisal and Fartguru: I simply don't recall either of you being the least bit disturbed when Belgium passed their global war crimes law. In fact, the most prevalent opinion expressed in Gupshup when some fools tried to apply it to Ariel Sharon was "good." And when it was stricken down, the most prevalent opinion seemed to be how wrong that was.
I guess any "global law" that some podunk country passes is OK if it is to be applied against the US or some jew, but it becomes appalling when it might serve a jewish interest. Now that is double standards my friends.
You should be much more consistent in your thinking.....sort of more like myvoice. Repeat after me: "Global laws professing global jurisdiction are an abomination regardless of which country tries to enact them and no matter what agenda they are designed to advance."

Totally different thing my dear. As part of the UN Charter, member nations have agreed to permit the UN to establish war crimes tribunals in accordance with the terms of the Charter.
It is totally different when a single country without treaty or agreement from the other countries of the world tries to unilaterally assert global jurisdiction over some particular type of offense.
It is also totally different than the International Criminal Court. The only basis for the ICC obtaining jurisdiction is the agreement (via treaty) of countries to give it jurisdiction. This is something the US refuses to do.

The Belgian law I was referring to is different from the ICC. As to the ICC, the US chose not to give it jurisdiction for many of the same reasons you don’t want an Israeli court extraditing you to Israel for being an Anti-Semitic Holocaust denier.
