Israeli Human Rights Abuses Exonerated By U.S. Government Report

It is said that the " A Picture is worth a thousand words" but I disagree. Its worth a thousand assumptions! Very evident in this thread.

Akif,

Your vehemence is proving my point. The bitterness in your words, though underlying, is very much apparent. It is this very bitterness that spawns hatred and it is this hatred that I am trying to combat.

I have not in any way, shape or form condoned the presence of the Isrealis in Palestine.

What I have done is asked the folks to look at the photo from a very plausible angle.

I sense that you feel I am taking away from the horor of the deed. I am not. The gun, the uniform, the stance, the garb...all of it is threatening. But not directed to the woman and the children.....and therefore it should not be promoted as such.

The occupation of Palestine is deplorable - make no mistake about it. But manipulation of the masses through media and propoganda is no less a crime.

Akif,

First you said...

...but then you said...

...as well as...

So, is the direction of his gun important or not? If not, why did you begin by making an issue of it?

Muzna,
still there are guyz an girls who agree with Akif but didnt post here.
I'm very sure about that.

"Subjectively speaking", I dont see that as any relevant proof.

Anyway keep up the discussion, it's getting interesting. Bit by bit.

Muzna brought up the question.

and no, the angle of it is not important. The mere presence of it is the issue.

If you guys cannot make out why this picture is posted in the first place, it doesnt matter how far we take this discussion.

Muzna...if a policeman walks up to you with a gun in his pocket, you would NOT be scared. If a stranger walks up to you with a gun in his pocket, you WILL be scared. The above picture represents a stranger holding a gun in front of these kids....not a military man. Its NOT about the angle of the gun. Its about the concept, and thats why the picture was posted. Symbolic oppression is whats evident in this picture, nothing else. To me, even if an unarmed Israeli were standing in Palestinian territory, it would have represented the same. Now perhaps we view Israels presence in Palestine from different angles, but to me, since their mere presence is unjustified, it makes everything else unjustified as well.

and what do we expect from the media, if not exposure of such oppression? Should the media cover up, or ignore all these acts, and let the world believe what comes out from the mouth of the party with the upper hand? Mind you, this is the only way the world gets to know what exactly is happening in Palestine. Otherwise, most of the world, US included, dont have an iota worth of clue what the issue in Palestine is all about. Heck they didnt even know Afghanistan and Pakistan existed before Sept 11. How can you discount the value of such media exposure? It does not breed hatred in my mind. It creates awareness.

Exactly. And that's why it makes it even more critical to ensure that the picture addresses the precise concept that you wish to convey.

Again you solidify my position on the subject.

The concept you wish to convey appears to alienate an entire race/faith (i.e. The Jews and Isrealis). When you suggest that an unarmed Isreali in Palestine means the same to you as the "horrible man with the weapon threatening women in children" in the photo, what does that say about your mindset against Isrealis?

What does it say about the way you have been indoctrinated against Isrealis across the board?

My message is not to ignore a threat....but to not paint everyone with the same brush.

If what you say is true, then how come it took Sept. 11 to make people aware?

Images and reports on Palestine like the one posted in this thread have been broadcast for decades now. They have done nothing to make the world aware.

Ali,

Forget about those guyz and girls that aren't posting but you're sure agree with you and Akif.

Why don't you join in the debate? Let's read what you have to say.....
