Israel says sorry for passport fraudsters

Israel has apologised for the involvement of two of its spies in the passport fraud scandal, allowing diplomatic sanctions to be lifted.
But Prime Minister Helen Clark revealed yesterday that the extent of the problem was worse than previously thought. Other New Zealand passports had previously been obtained by Israeli intelligence agents, though she said the issue had been sorted out.
Relations with Israel plunged when it refused to apologise for the behaviour of alleged Mossad agents Uri Kelman and Eli Cara, arrested in March 2004 and charged with trying to fraudulently obtain New Zealand passports.
