Israel and Hamas 'agree truce'.

Once again Israel offers hand of friendship to Hamas. Let’s hope Iran backed Hamas sticks with peace this time, rather than going back to terrorist activities.

Re: Israel and Hamas 'agree truce'.

It's a one way truce by Hamas. Basically, it means that Hamas needs 6 months to recover and regroup to fight Israel again.
After 6 months, there will be new fighting between Isreal & Hamas, and Isreal will then again pound Hamas......and then Hamas will announce another truce.....and then the cycle continues....

Has Israel halted expansion and stopped building new settlements illegally?

I agree!

By killing and starving Palestinian children. Aalsi is just another typical Indian who supports the genocide of innocent people. Not surprising at all considering his nationality.

You are very welcome. I see you side with genocide supporters. You're showing your true colors, thank you for posting.

Re: Israel and Hamas 'agree truce'.

Don't turn your racist views towards Indians into an attack against me.

I support Israels right to security as well as the Palestinians. To pretend that the conflict is one sided woud be laughable. Ten's of thousands of rockets have reigned down on Israel from Gaza the past few years. I hope that Hamas is committed to the well being of the Palestinians and uses this ceasefire to work towards lasting peace rather than to rearm.

Moonshiner bhaijan. God bless you.

Are you suggesting that the Arab League is full of Indians?

**Gaza truce step towards Palestinian unity: Arab League

** CAIRO - The Arab League on Wednesday welcomed an Egyptian-mediated truce between Israel and the Palestinians as a key step towards a reconciliation between Palestinian factions.

“The calming is an important step which can pave the way for a development of the political situation on the Palestinian front,” Hisham Yussef, chief of staff of Arab League secretary general Amr Mussa, told reporters."

Re: Israel and Hamas 'agree truce'.

Still waiting to hear, Has the expansion of settlements stopped?

Re: Israel and Hamas 'agree truce'.

hamas should be backed more by pakistan then iran.

since hamas's election win, palestinian areas have often been called 'hamas-stan'

the addition of the stan, is an indirect challenge to pakistan. israellis probably secretly fear pakistan the most or see it being pakistans responsibilty/duty to come free their fellow muslims from such awful oppression. this insecurity or derision from the israellis is a threat to pakistan

Re: Israel and Hamas 'agree truce'.

I think Pakistan has enough issues to deal with.

Re: Israel and Hamas 'agree truce'.

People actually care about israel and palestine? lolz.

Re: Israel and Hamas 'agree truce'.

Guys please, lets stay on topic.

Aalsi brown sahib,

No, you should learn how to read first and then respond. It's just not very surprising that an Indian would support Israeli state terror and genocidal tactics.

Also Khaleej Times is a Pan-Arab paper. The panarabs are dead just like their leader, Saddam. Just like you, they have no credibility.

Re: Israel and Hamas 'agree truce'.

What you guys are forgetting the truce is only between Israel and Hamas

Islamic Jihad and Al Aqsa Martyr's Bridgade are left out.

Islamic Jihad will probably start its own attacks on Israel prompting an Israeli retaliation which will then force Hamas to attack Israel and truce will be off

This is exactly what happened last time and thats pretty much what is going to happen this time

Moonshiner bhaijan. Time to rejoice. Israel once again is offering a hand of friendship which is welcomed by the Arab League. Let's hope Hamas takes this opportunity.

Hamas is claiming that all factions will abide byt he Hamas truce.. time will tell.

The interesting thing is that the latest peace effort, both between israel and hamas and israel and Syria, are being conducted by intermediaries (Egypt and Turkey) without involvement of the USA and indeed against a backdrop of discouragement by the USA.

If this peace holds.... it would argue that the US has little further role to play in the diplomacy around Israel. Another piece of US influence lost by the Bush administration.

Aalsi brown sahib,

Arab League is irrelevant just like you.

Well looks like the truce is broken…

=============================================

JERUSALEM - Palestinian militants on Tuesday fired three homemade rockets into southern Israel, the first such attack since a cease-fire between Israel and Gaza militants took effect last week. Israel condemned the attack as a “gross violation” of the truce, but did not say whether it would retaliate. The barrage wounded two people and capped a day of violence that presented the truce with its first serious test.Just before midnight, Palestinian militants fired a mortar shell into an empty area in southern Israel. And in a pre-dawn raid, Israeli troops killed two Palestinians in the West Bank city of Nablus.

Islamic Jihad, a small armed group backed by Syria and Iran, claimed responsibility for the rocket fire. Although the West Bank is not included in the truce, the group said the Nablus raid had soured the atmosphere of calm.“We cannot keep our hands tied when this is happening to our brothers in the West Bank,” the militant group said.Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said the rocket attack came because of “Israeli provocation this morning” and added that Hamas was “committed to the calm.” He said Hamas will talk with other factions and make sure they are committed, too.

The Egyptian-brokered truce went into effect Thursday. The immediate aim was to end fighting that has killed seven Israelis and more than 400 Palestinians — many of them civilians — since Hamas gained control of Gaza a year ago.It also obliges Israel to ease a punishing blockade of the coastal strip.

In a final stage, the sides are to address Hamas’ demand to reopen a major border passage between Gaza and Egypt and Israel’s insistence that Hamas release an Israeli soldier it has held for two years. The cease-fire is meant to avert an Israeli invasion of Gaza, a tiny, impoverished seaside territory of 1.4 million people that Israel evacuated in 2005 after a 38-year military occupation. The deal extends beyond Hamas to all militant groups operating in Gaza but does not include the West Bank.

Egypt acted as middleman for the six-month truce because Israel, like much of the international community, shuns Hamas for refusing to recognize Israel or renounce violence.Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert flew to Egypt on Tuesday for talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.Upon entering the meeting in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik, Mubarak said the two would discuss efforts to release the Israeli soldier, Sgt. Gilad Schalit. Olmert hailed Egyptian efforts to end attacks on Israel from Gaza.Israel has pressed Egypt to crack down on arms smuggling from Egypt’s Sinai desert into Gaza.

On Tuesday, Olmert was quoted in the London-based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat daily as saying that if the smuggling did not end, then Israel would consider the cease-fire agreement violated, and "we will be compelled to military action."Early Tuesday, Israeli troops killed a senior Islamic Jihad commander in a raid in the West Bank town of Nablus. A neighbor said a Palestinian bystander was also shot to death by troops when he opened the door of his apartment during the raid. The Israeli military said the man was a militant killed during a gunbattle with troops. Islamic Jihad said the commander of its northern West Bank operations, Tarek Juma, was killed in the operation.

The military said Juma was targeted because he was planning an attack on Israel. Troops found explosive devices and munitions in his apartment, it said.In Germany, Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad condemned the operation. Fayyad, whose government is trying to negotiate a peace deal with Israel, has said continuing military operations are undermining efforts to have Palestinian security forces restore law and order in the West Bank.

This was “an example of the kind of activity that has to stop and has to stop immediately and promptly if we are going to succeed in providing security to our people,” said Fayyad, who is attending an international conference aimed at bolstering his security forces. “There was absolutely no exchange of information on this particular incident.” Also Tuesday, the Hamas military wing took responsibility for a shooting in the West Bank last week that injured three Israeli hikers. The claim was sent in a text message to Gaza journalists.

Re: Israel and Hamas 'agree truce'.

^^ As Predicted, its the Palestinians who broke the truce.

Islamic Jihad fired rockets into Israel which said in a previous post they will do all along.

This will prompt an Israeli retaliation which will cause Hamas to retaliate ending the truce and the cycle of violence will continue before a new truce will be brokered.

A very cynical act by Israel. They attacked Islamic Jihad's leadership in the West Bank to provoke a reaction in Gaza.

This has happened continuously before. Previous ceasefires in Gaza have been torpedoed by Israel attacking the West Bank leadership of Gazan militants - and Israel has gone and done the same thing again.
