Re: Isn’t It Odd? Isn’t It Strange?
What mirch said.
Moreover not liking is not equivalent to hating.
I stopped listening to islamic lectures long back, not because I disliked the lecturers, but because I no longer wanted to see the punishing side of my lord. I wanted to know the forgiving side of my lord. Al Raheem, Al kareem, Al ghaffar, Al mujeeb etc. Doesn’t mean I hate the lecturers out there. Yes, it gets to me how we instill fear from the lord in our children instead of love of the lord.
I don’t think it has anything to do with muslims or non muslims.
Mirch:
Agree to your stance 110%. I do not know why in religion use of negative motivation is thought to be a universal and powerful tool. The religious scholar who scares you the most is supposed to be most inspiring. Does it negative motivation work with everybody in every situation? I do not think so.
If look at the history of spread of any religion it was spread by those who were most pious and practicing , most humble and mild mannered.
Yes consequences of non confirming to religion should be spelled out but that should not be used as a motivator.
I once sat with a group of pious people they painted such a beautiful picture of jannat and spelled out so many easy ways to get in that I wanted to go to Jannat at that very moment.
THIS!!!
Why must we constantly teach our faith through an atmosphere of punishment, regret and remorse?
Allah swt loves us more than our mothers ever could so why not focus on that love?
