There are many of philosphies of Gandhi that i agree with. But isn’t it ironic that after having 6 kids, Gandhi jee declared himself a “Bal-Brahmachari”? This philosophy and the experiments to follow were weird natured.
DD there must be some reasons behind this late decision. Human ideology changes over the time and when ascertaining ones personality for a particular decision, we should look at his/ her life after that decision to know whether he /she stick to that decision or not.
He stuck to it after his 6 kids and being old enough. Its easy for anyone at all at that stage. If he had a point, he should have begun it well in time, just my point of view.
Nice point DD, but we need to know the reason why Gandhi adapted Celibacy. Were there any specific reason for denouncing normal life? This requires considering the historical, religious and social perspective of being celibate prevalent in Gandhi's times?
This is also not incorrect but it is incomplete definition of BrahmCharya, Brahmcharya means behavior like Brahma, the creator, Brahma is a celibate but still he created entire universe. Sexual temperament is the biggest motivator in human system, people lose honor, pride for attaining sexual satisfaction. The Brahmcharya means channeling this human energy for the creation of better society. All Brahmins today claim that they are descendent of Maharishis like Kashyap, vasishtha, bhardwaj etc.
Brahmcharya is initial part of social life of a hindu, while he gets education in an ashram. According to Hinduism one has to procreate if he/she has power to do so, it is compulsory to avoid ,Pitr Rin, meaning ancestral duty. if one doesn’t procreate the doors of heaven will not open up. Gandhi adopted brahmcharya in this way while struggling in South Africa.
It is better to read 'my experiment with truth" and allow him to explain in detail, I think

I do have urdu translation of this autobiography. Will go through it and lets see what were the reasons behind this?
Even I read it a few years ago, he was true mass leader and always accepted lacunae in his personality, even though modern young India criticize him harshly it is very difficult to become half of what he was.
I've started reading the chapters on the topic and found that he started celibacy in 1906 at the age of 37, so was not old enough to take this decision easily. He mentions that he was trying to do that since 1901 and finally made decision after 5 years consulting her wife. The reason he mentions for doing so is to concentrate on the social work rather than on family affairs like pregnancy of wife.
The concern of Gandhi ji for social work and preference of that over his family was also well depicted in the movie 'My father Gandhi'. Mr Jinnah's personal life and his marriage with Ratan Bai also suffered due to his preference of social cause.
Mahatma Gandhi is great because of consistent support of Kasturba in every step of life, she always supported him and even directed him to the right direction. Similarity between Quiad's and Mahatma's life is disagreement between them and their children, Harilal and Dina Wadia.
Harilal had to carry surname Gandhi hence he felt his personal space is being destroyed secondly, he never liked Gandhi’s ordinances, Jinnah married a non-muslim himself, Dina’s grandson, Ness Wadia gave heart aches to my dear Priety Zinta, that is equally serious offence:bummer:
But Mr Jinnah had the contention that Ratan Bai understood Islam before marrying him and she did not convert just for marrying him.
I thought that Vadia-Zinta chapter was closed.
Now I didn't know this. Even Jinnah loved pork sausages but all this personal things are no match to what Jinnah achieved in his life and sacrifices, personal, social and professional that he made to achieve what he believed in.
Yeah that chapter is over, Preity Zinta was my senior in school so I felt bad for her:)
Yes Mr Jinnah was a great man of the sub-continent history and when a person is famous than spreading many things (true or false about their personal affairs) is a norm of our society. We keep on discussing petty issues and don’t pay attention to the question, how they could achieve all that.
Dina wasn't as problematic as Jinnah openly disowned her & it was a known thing. Even when he met her later, he used to refer to her as "Mrs.Wadia". Harilal on the other hand, was more of a rebellious person to the extent of creating problems on every other step in Gandhi's life.
