… to be this arrogant? um i mean to have your picture and your sons’ pictures plastered on a skyscraper ? Not only is it horrendously out of taste, but um - not to sound too dadiish, but what happened to modesty and humility ? Even Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) would never behave in this way… so what gives 21st century Muslim dictators to do so ?
Just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth to see this picture. It’s really rather pathetic IMHO.
There is such a big delta between the conduct of our Prophet, the Messenger of Islam (peace be upon him) and these present day rulers that it will take a very long post to even put together a bullet-point list of their deficiencies. Pasting their giant-sized images on buildings, IMO, will be pretty low. Its only when we get past the fact that these are all unelected monarchies who brutally kill and suppress their own citizens (both muslims and non-muslims) who raise voices against them.. that we will get to the personal traits like arrogance and hundreds of other public ills they display.

But what made you think that the Saudi Royal family was really islamic.

I don't think its Saudi. Seems to me its the ruling family of UAE's shaikh... though they are all all-the-same.

Very well-stated, Faisal Bhai. i agree.
Serendipiti, lolzzz! :D i think maybe, beauty/ugliness is a matter of which glasses you wear to determine that.
M, Sorry no link, these are personal pictures. And Faisal Bhai is right, it's Sheikh Zayed al Nahyan of the UAE. Some of them might be his sons, some might be his uncles/brothers/cousins who occupy various Ministerial positions of all the emirates in the UAE.
M, i am not certain "why" they did it..... arrogance and vanity are all i can think of to be honest. It wasn't like a contest or anything, they just decided to do it... :~|
i dont remember too precisely, but in one of the tintins, probably cigars of the pharoah, there's this arab guy who buys soap and eats it thinking its something edible. doesnt sound too funny i guess hmm.. but the ppl on the buidling wall have grins that remind me of it.
before throwing stones at them and before starting ur anti-arab lectures did u bother to find out whehter the pics have been put up there by order of the ruling family????
the people of uae love their royal family because of the good they do for their people....
the president of uae, sheikh zayed is called by his people as "zayed al-khair" meaning "zayed the good"....
his picture is posted not only on this building, but almost all the people put his posters on their cars, his photo on their mobile phones, and t-shirts and some even make websites dedicated to sheikh zayed....
ofcuorse he doesnt order the people to do this....
they just love him....
and a coupe of years back when he fell ill and was serious, almost all cars had stickers with prayers for him....
but its too hard for u pl to understand....
cuz all u ppl like to do is pass on ur stupid comments completely ignoring the fact that these guys might actually be doing some good....
Shaikh Zahed al-nahyan is maybe the only highly respected leader in the Gulf. Talk to any emirati and he will tell you. For that we he has been to his population, he has earned respect and goodwill. I wouldn't say anything about other leaders in the Muslim world. All had their ways of showing off, inlcuding our leaders. Islamically, there is no point in putting large pictures like that. But what you have posted is different. Oh...but who cares Arab bashing is fun....isn't it!
It's marketing. How would muslim owned companies compete in teh modern world it they don't conform to in your face advertising? Doe sit make the guy less of a muslim because he has his pciture on a skyscraper? To me that suggests, "hey..in the islamic worldwe also have worldclass facilities", he is the Donald Trump of Arabia maybe..

It is not right to compare such things with him(pbuh) in first place.
Aour wasiay bhi it is royal family they can do what ever they like.
Now if u wana be critical to Arab royal families then this is something ignorable, in front of other hardcore issues
Nadia, linking back to armughal's point, I'm now curious as to whether this was deliberatley ordered by the Sheikh, or whether this is an architect's willing tribute to a ruler he loves.

OK thanks, its the UAE leader.
The reason I asked for a link was casue we need to know all the facts and reasons before we can critise.
Also as u can see armugul theres always the other side to the story.
And I agree we just love bash arabs for some reason, which makes us just as bad as their alleged arrogance.
